Switching Platforms for CS6

Hi All,

hopefully someone has an answer for my issue. I recently purchased a beautiful brand new iMac for the sole purpose of using my Adobe products on it. I'm a designer and figured I would upgrade from my extremely slow windows laptop to something a little more professional. I purchased Adobe Creative Suite Design & Web Premium back in 2012 for the windows platform and recently attempted to switch over to Mac. Adobe is completely unwilling to help me with my issue and customer service isn't helping me much at all. I just don't understand how I'm going to pay over $600 for something and never be able to use it again. There has to be something that can be done because this is just an awful way to trick the consumer into spending more money... help!!!

There's no trick involved. CS6 is very old software. Adobe stopped selling CS6 a couple of years ago and stopped offering platform swaps around the same time.

Even if you install CS6 on macOS Mojave, you won't be able to upgrade your operating system since Apple will no longer run 32 bit software on future operating systems. Although Photoshop CS6 is 64 bit, it uses utilities and shared components which are 32 bit and will never be updated.

Your options now:

  • Get a Cloud membership and run the latest 64 bit CC software on your new Mac and have the flexibility to upgrade your Mac operating system, or
  • Run CS6 in a virtual Windows environment (Parallels or Bootcamp are popular) on your Mac, or
  • Buy the current version of Photoshop Elements which might offer you all the features you need to use from CS6

Piggybacking on what John has already said... also remember, that the older the software and the newer the computer, the more likely you're going to run into issues with the software not functioning properly or sometimes even at all. Check out that Creative Cloud membership when you get a chance
