"This serial number is not valid for..."

In 2013 I purchased and downloaded Photoshop and Premier Elements 12 on a Windows computer, but I have recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro and I'm at the stage in the installation process where you supply your serial number. Unfortunately, every time I try to progress I receive the "This serial number is not valid for Adobe Photoshop Elements 12" message. I have checked and double check that it is the correct code.  Does anyone know why this is, and how I might be able to fix it?
