Trying to install camera raw

Adobe downloaded CS3&CS5 on my new laptop.  That was successful but having problems using camera raw.  Message is "camera raw did not recognize the format of one of your images.  Need to update my version of camera raw."  Have been using the same Nikon camera for the past 10 or more years and always was compatible.  Adobe sent some installer links (10.5/11.4/13.1&12.1) all of which were downloaded but not successful.  Tried to update everything too and that did not help either.  I use Windows 10 Firefox.  Am I out of luck because of using an older version of PS?

From within photoshop cs5 have you tried Help>Updates to get camera raw 6.7 and other relevant cs5 updates?

manual 6.7.1 installer for windows:

I have tried all these suggestions with no success.  My error messaage is "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."  Or in application manager:  "the following updates were unable to install.  Please fix problems and retry."  With so many others with the same problem, has anybody successfully downloaded these recommendations to solve their problem?  I guess I will have to use DNG but I prefer camera raw.  I thank you all very much for being so patient and willing to help.

For the AdobeCameraRaw-6.7.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip from the link above you extracted the contents and then doubled clicked on the AdobePatchInstaller.exe?

OMG......that worked.  I approached saving the file a little differently and I'm now in business with camera raw.  After all these hours trying to understand this, I am thoroughly appreciative.  I did get the message to close Bridge.exe which I did from task manager not knowing if I would mess things up more.  Persistance was the answer.  Good luck to others that are in the same boat...................

I should have made myself a little more clear.  Adobe took over my laptop and began downloading CS5 from links they recommended.  I was told CS5 has not yet been removed from the server.  The only problem is camera raw does not function on new NEFF images.  However, on images that have previously been saved as TIFF's, camera raw still allows me to make additional corrections.  My camera is Nikon 7000.  According to their chart, camera raw version should be 6.7 ??  I do not use Lightroom.  I would prefer to use camera raw but if I need to use DNG, then so be it.  Many thanks for your comments.

By the way, is CS6 still available to purchase?

None of the CS versions are available to purchase legally.

If someone contacts you directly claiming to be Adobe and wanting to sell you one of them, delete the email immediately. They are scammers. They definitely want your money and they may also try to install malware on your computer to steal your identity or hold your files for ransom.

Have been using the same Nikon camera

Which model exactly?

If you cannot get the required version of Camera Raw for your camera then you can go the DNG route.

Download the free Adobe DNG converter, comvert all your Raw files to DNG format then open the DNG files (not the Raw files from the camera) in CS5

I don't know how "Adobe" could download CS3 to your computer, since that is a DEAD product

-So even if you have a disc or saved download, CS2-CS3-CS4 are completely dead
-Adobe also no longer supplies the special non-activation version of CS2-CS3-CS4

CS5 may still be activated, but it is about 7 years old, so current add-ons likely won't work
