Trying to install CS5 on my new computer

I recently purchased a new computer and want to download my CS5 on it.  I signed into my Adobe account and  typed in my serial number.  A message came up saying "This serial number is already in use".

Please advise me as to what I can do to successfully download CS5 to my new computer.

Thank you,

Nancy

note: cs5 is not compatible with newer os'es.

that said you can download the installation file(s) and start to install.  you'll have more success if you use compatibility mode to install.

if you see an excess activation count message when you start to install and you're unable to deactivate via your account, using a browser that allows popups and cookies, contact adobe support during pst business hours by clicking here and, when available, click 'chat', https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html and request an "activation count reset".

    • Download and installation help for Adobe links

    • Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages.  They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

And a big thank you to Jim @ Prodesigntools for helping me with these links!

You don't specify Mac or Windows, so some notes for both

CS6 and earlier programs HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED AND WILL NOT BE UPDATED for Mac El Capitan or newer operating systems

-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems due to Apple updates

-Apple did not maintain backward compatibility with old programs in El Capitan or newer operating systems

--Adobe has a workaround to Apple's problem of not maintaining backward compatibility

--READ HERE https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2301916 for an Adobe solution to installing old programs, including a link to installing the old Java runtime that is required

--Also read for more information https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2458382

    --and https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/install-or-run-applications-new.html

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... this says Encore, but is sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account) so follow the instructions, substituting the name and location of your specific program for Encore

    -also https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.html
