Unable to install Illustrator/Creative Cloud

I am trying to install Illustrator onto my mac (macos Catalina 10.15.7) but with no luck.  I have been able to download the installer via the Adobe site, however, after double clicking on the icon, as prompted to do so, nothing happens.  I don't receieve any error messages and I have my mac firewall switched off and 50GB worth of space on the mac.  I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this, thanks!

You may need to upgrade to Big Sur or later if possible. Macs from about 2012 cannot run anything past Catalina which is no longer supported by Apple or Adobe.

    reset the cc desktop app by making sure it's in the foreground, then press:

    Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
    Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

    restart your computer and then retry installing the current illustrator cc 2023 (v 27)
