Unable to Install Lightroom/Lightroom Classic I get a 206 error or spinning circle
So I've been trying for a couple days to install Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. I initially tried using Lightroom_Set-Up_787q.exe, then after that gave me the issues I'll describe in a moment, tried Lightroom_Classic_Set-Up_747q.exe.
The issues here apply to both installers. This is on a Windows 11 machine with up to date patches on both Windows and all drivers.
I tried running the installer, then it launches a Firefox tab to login to the account, and does that three times. Then it gives me a 206 error, saying "installer cannot download Lightroom Classic because Adobe's servers aren't reachable."
If I try to login via the installer itself, it still ends up with the 206 error. So it isn't a problem with Firefox.
After some research, I tried launching it with Administrator privileges. This time, it does the login via Firefox only once. But then it just has a spinning circle that goes on and on. I've let it go for over an hour with no change to anything. Now when I do it via run as administrator, a box pops up with "We couldn't create the data directory. Microsoft Edge can't create the read and write to its data directory." But what folder it is keeps changing, so even if I do make it allow read and write privileges, next time I try it, it changes, even if I give full read/write to the whole temp directory.
I've made sure to allow all things Adobe on the Firewall. I've disable Malware Bytes, and disable Windows Security. There's been several restarts, disabling the virus scanners after each reboot. Nothing seems to get past that point. I've tried both my default Ethernet, and wifi.
I just can't figure out what else to do. I've checked the HOST file, nothing there. I ran Adobe Create Cloud Cleaner Tool, doesn't help. Even with going for all.
I don’t have a VPN.
I’ve also followed all the “Having Trouble Installing Creative Cloud Apps? Start Here” advice, no luck. I’ve double checked there is no hidden proxy settings in the Registry by double checking all the proxy locations there (following Awake Coding’s article “Deleting Hidden Proxy Settings that Break Windows Apps”).
I thought, maybe something in the router, so I used my phone and did a Hotspot, and it still wouldn’t get past either stage.
It doesn’t seem to be an account issue, not only does it seem fine with the Firefox message that I was successfully logged in, but I can use the web version in Firefox itself. Like by the time I get this figured out, the 7 day trial will be over.
