Question

unable to locate /tmp system folder - have tried cleaning and uninstalling - nothing works

Hi Guys,

So I have this error on my mac.

I have run the adobe cleaner and cleaned all the files - no more appear.

When I tried to install - I get this error. I still have adobe creative cloud as an icon on my applications (not in the applications folder but when you open the app launch menu - but it doesn't work or run). It says there's an error and when I click repair it tells me to redownload creative cloud.

But when I do, can't install.

So: can't repair, cant uninstall, can't install, have already cleaned it.

How do I fix this?

dude..

click on your home screen to bring ' finder, file, edit, view, go, window, help' up on your tool bar

click on 'Go' , then click on 'go to folder'

type in '/private/'

the folder it brings up right click in there and create new folder

enter your password

name it 'tmp' and within this new folder create another new folder, name this one 'system'

so it should look like 'private/tmp/system'

do note that while you're creating these folders other things will populate in these folders

now the folder exist and you can proceed with your creative cloud app as usual..

Aha! And I think I see the problem. The /tmp folder (which is used by all sorts of things to write temporary files) does exist, but has the wrong permissions, so you can't actually put anything in it!

I think this may happen a lot because Apple have a special tool to mend the permissions. Please see Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility - Apple Support  for Apple's advice on how to run the tool. Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for running the test. The good news is that your Mac seems fine. The bad news is that this may mean something is wrong with Creative Cloud. Before giving up though, from your results and some study I have one more thing to ask you to run in a Terminal:

ls -dl /private/tmp

Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

This is my output:

drwxr-xr-x  10 _mysql  _mysql  320  8 May 20:34 /private/tmp

If the message is right, your Mac is seriously broken. Does anything else fail oddly?

Please try this:

From Application > Utilities, start the Terminal app

Copy and paste (don't retype) these five lines into the terminal window (you can paste all five lines at once):

ls -d /t*

ls -l /tmp

ls -L /tmp

cd /tmp

ls

Please post a screen shot of the result, or copy/paste everything that appears in the window. (There shouldn't be any personal info there but just double check for that).

What is the error text, in full, and what triggers it?

If I try and install the creative cloud, I get this:

"Unable to locate /tmp system folder. Please make sure the folder exists before proceeding with the installation"

If I try to uninstall the creative cloud, at the moment nothing happens it runs and then just closes itself.

If I try to run the creative cloud I get:

Adbove Creative cloud, needed to resolve the problem, is missing or damaged. You can try to repair to fix the issue. If the problem persists download and install new copy"

Hit repair and get:

Repair is failing due to some error. Please download and install new copy.

And I can't install a new copy.
