Unable to log into CC desktop app

I created my Adobe account using my Google identity, which worked and triggered the CC desktop app download. Once that completed, I opened the CC app and there's no way to log in via Google. I can either log in using my email address or create a new account. If I click create new account, it doesn't give Google auth as an option. If I try to create new account using my Gmail account, it says it already exists (which makes sense). I tried resetting my password from within the CC app, and that generated notifications to my phone to confirm, which I did and I completed the reset successfully. However once that part was done, it wouldn't let me log in; the last stage of the login always results in the app signing me out.

using your browser, navigate to, https://accounts.adobe.com and sign in with your gmail address.  

 

does that work and does it show the info you expect?

 

if so, sign out and then back in to your cc desktop application using the same adobe id (=gmail address) used above: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/sign-in-out-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html
