I signed up for $14.95 per month subscription and had it for about a year, then went to cancel but and THEN found out there was a plan time commitment and I had to pay 50% of the future fees, another $68.

I cancelled anyway, because frankly the product is so slow to load up and use it is the most frustrating image editing software I've ever used.

Then out of curiosity went back to sign up again and I can see anything there about period contracts.

I'm going to advise Fair Trading Australia of your offer so they can review the legalities of it.

You might want to pass along the subscription terms that you agreed to when you made your purchase as well.

Licenses and Terms of Use | Adobe

Also, Plan Terms have changed recently to include new options that didn't exist before like Lightroom CC + 1TB storage.

I’d suggest say “12 month plan” on the very first time you state the offer and price.

Terms and conditions may protect you from the law but not from

Unhappy customers.

Anyway you’d already lost me, but now I’m a bad reference.

I don't work for Adobe.

This is a user-to-user forum, not Adobe support.

Plan terms vary by region.  What I see in the US may be different from what you're offered down under.   I don't know though because I can't see what you're offered as I reside in the US.
