Uninstall Acrobat XI

Adobe help advises that I should deactivate the product before uninstalling and to do this by going to Help>Deactivate.   Then to uninstall, go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, highlight the Acrobat XI and select Uninstall/Remove button.

I can't go to Help>Deactivate as it is a trial version and it does not give me an option.

When I go straight to the Control Panel, and press uninstall - it starts but then stops as it says I have something open - I don't.  I went straight to the folder where it is kept and pressed delete and it also says that I have something open.

How can I get rid of the trial screen asking to buy or quit?

I have Reader and cannot use it because of this.
