update for acrobat 10 standard fails

I can't apply the latest update for Acrobat 10.  It gets nearly there and then roles back saying that I don't have access to a folder.  This has happened before and I got around it eventually somehow but it is very amateurish for Adobe to be unable to provide an update patch that works without bother.

I looked at their suggestions but most seemed to involve uninstalling and re-installing but since the software came with the PC I am unwilling to do this at risk of loosing the licensing information.

Can anyone suggest a way around this?

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. Folders being inaccessible is 99% of the time a permissions issue on your end or some security tool/ setting blocking it, not some inherent evil in the Adobe patch installers...

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.  I have tried switching off Kapersky virus checker - no difference.

It failed with Error 1310: Error writing to file c:\config.msi\ aab061.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory.

I tried renaming and also deleting the config.msi folder where temporary files were being placed but it installed somewhere in the Program Files\adobe directory instead.

At the tenth time of hacking around it seems to have installed - no idea why now since nothing else on my system changed; with the config.msi renamed as config.old it must have installed the temporary files somewhere else without applying read-only attributes.

Some things must remain a mystery but an hour of my life has been lost!
