Update to 2015.5 fails with Exit Code 123

Hi,

when trying to update to Photoshop CC (2015.5), Illustrator CC (2015.3) and Media Encoder CC (2015.3), we get on 9 machines of the same type and configuration the following error:

Exit Code: 123

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------
-

1 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 0 warnings(s)

FATAL: Fatal Error '123' occurred while download

We are working on OSX 10.10.5 on iMac retina 5k, late 2014, 4Ghz I7. 24GB RAM and AMD R9 M290X 2048MB

Updating to OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) is not an option (and shouldn't be).

Thanks,

Yves

Just to add to the delight, I've a couple of Macs that are throwing 1002/1004 errors when updating the Creative Cloud app prior to updating the individual apps.

Anyone else seen this one?

I had the same problem when I tried to install the new version of Creative Cloud  and finally had to get Adobe Support to take over my Mac and install the ACC desktop app.

Daddybiggs' Fix then let me install ACR, Ps and Ai successfully.

@Jeff A Wright :

Jeff, I've a Team of 54 users on 10.10.5, are Adobe seriously suggesting that I need to update all of them to 10.11 to fix this?......

Seriously mate, Adobe need to get a grip. We get NO notice of impending updates, NO advance testing opportunities to check if the updates will work on our systems then we get compeletely shafted by Adobe when our Team has updates forced on them.

Have you any idea how long it will take me to visit 54 Macs and apply the fix that @daddybiggs has supplied? Really?

SHAME on you Adobe, Shame on you.....

You are so very right, Steve McC.  We are in the same boat. And upgrading is just not an option as it is not compatible with some of our most critical management software, scanners, printers, not mention playing havoc with our older customer art/production files.  Adobe seems to have totally abandoned the professional business creative workgroups in favor of the mass public and hobbyists.

Well, after just about loosing my crap over this, Adobe finally has a so called "work around" as they are still enforcing the best fix is to upgrade to OSX 10.11 (Which is not an option for many of us).

The issue is in the original packing of the installers from Adobe CC 2015.  The HDcore folder is the culprit. Path: Go: Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/HDcore folder.  In there is a bunch of files that the tech deleted all of them and replaced them with the contents of a new HDcore folder downloaded from adobe assets public URL..  Here is the short version of the URL: Adobe Creative Cloud    Delete the original content from the HDcore folder and replace it with the new content.  Don't just drag and replace the entire folder as it will cause permission issues.  Just the content. Without a restart, all the tech did was shut down Adobe CC and restarted it and clicked on update and it installs without any more errors.    In the end when questioned what was the cause of this problem, it was stated "corrupt files in the HDcore folder".  The tech said the proper way to avoid it is to upgrade to OSX 10.11.  I disagree with their policies and this really hinders the professionalism of the Adobe establishment with me personally. I do not like being held hostage by any app developer or vendor. Lastly folks, after upgrading to all the latest Adobe apps, I did run into a few hiccups not mentioned by the tech.  The installer will stall on some apps (i.e Audition) as if found a conflict. I had to close the AdobeCRDeamon manually in the activities monitor to proceed with the upgrades/updates.  In the end, I personally officially call this a fix to the unexpected EXIT error "123" when upgrading to the latest apps from Adobe CC on MAC OSX 10.10.5 or under.  It's adobe's fault and not of your own. Good luck to you all frustrated hostages of the Adobe CC family.

Have same issue - get error 123 when trying to upgrade to newest photoshop 2015.5. Tried all the suggested fixes. Firewalls off - AV off - repair permissions etc.

Just as others stated, other applications did download and install even though photoshop would not.

I as others have experience other adobe application manager (AAM) issues frequently and it is very frustrating. It makes me wary to try and update in case it will break. Thank goodness for the prodesigntools website that have had direct links (in the past) to help get download/updates! Except for this newest version.

Please please please focus on AAM it makes or breaks your cloud service solution.

Same issue with us. We have many copies installed at our office and so far have 2 computers that will not upgrade to Photoshop CC 2015.5 and Illustrator CC 2015.3. All other apps updated fine on these 2 computers except PS & IL. Reinstalling PS CC 2015 was fine too so something is wrong with PS CC 2015.5 & IL CC 2015.3 for some of the computers.

Same problem here, on two MAC Pro computers, Only InDesign downloaded and installed.

Did all this: Advanced solutions to connection errors with Adobe Creative Cloud and Creative Suite applications

Repaired permissions, turned off Firewall, etc. to no avail. Except for the router there is no other hardware between the computer and the internet. As straight forward as it gets.

Problems in fact started with the new Application Manager 3.7.0.272 released last week. Did not want to download. First thought it was a computer problem. Then started my backup computer to find it came up with the same error. Finally installed the AAM through a direct link from Prodesigntools.com.

I have been with Adobe Cloud for over two years know, never a problem updating. I would say the bug is in the Adobe software!

Well, Charm3D, welcome to the world of Adobe Cloud update grief. I’ve been using the cloud since inception and I run into an update problem at least 3x/year. It’s definitely their software. And they’re terrible at identifying the actual error when it fails. It’s never what the error reports.

Often the solution is to download the full package installer at the ProDesign link given by Brucgovn upthread (this is what Adobe tech support will walk you through if you call them), but it seems Adobe is no longer providing direct links to these installers. Yay! Great idea, Adobe! Makes perfect sense since your updating software rarely works as expected.

Same issue as OP. Not a network connectivity or security issue. I’m not prepared to update to El Capitan yet either.

Updates on ProDesign link are not the updates we’re looking for. The most recent ones aren’t there yet.

Could it be the connectivity issue is Adobe’s side? That there are too many simultaneous hits to your servers at the moment? Would Adobe be able to admit this in public?

Yvonneh73002973 and Bright Medusa can you please try repairing disk permissions to see if it corrects the Exit Code 123 error you are experiencing.  You can find details on how to repair disk permissions under Mac OS 10.10 at Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility - Apple Support .

My understanding is that this error can be caused when invalid permissions are set on required folder/directories.  Upgrading to Mac OS 10.11, which handles permissions differently, tends to resolve the error.  Repairing disk permissions may allow you to correct the error under Mac OS 10.10.5.

Finally if you are not running Mac OS 10.10.5 then please update to the current version of Mac OS 10.10 available using the update feature in the Apple App Store.

Hi Yves%20Apel,

The "Fatal error - Exit code 123" occurs due to connectivity issues, for more information on this see, Troubleshoot Illustrator CC 2015 log files

To troubleshoot connectivity issues, follow the steps mentioned in the below document:

Advanced solutions to connection errors with Adobe Creative Cloud and Creative Suite applications

Kindly let us know if this helps, awaiting your response.

Hi,

Unfortunately it doesn't help. The strange thing on this is that other updates such as for InDesign worked fine. Also the firewall ports 80 and 443 are open. The Limited Access Repair tools didn't find an error.

Thanks,

Yves

I am pretty sure that , it is being caused due to network or security settings. Are you using End point protection suites like Symantec End Point..etc?

Is it a managed office / corporate network ??

Anyhw , for time being download update setup manually and try to install .
