Updates for Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 for Mac

I have AI CC 2017 for mac.  I keep getting a banner that tells me I have 2 updates.  When I search for updates it gives me a list of things to update or try.  However it asks me to quit out of AI to do the updates, then the window showing the updates disappears, so i cannot proceed?

with ai closed , open your cc desktop app > click the gear icon > click 'check for app updates'.

does that show an available ai update that you can install?
