Upgrade Photoshop help

My computer came with Photoshop CS2 installed, but it only shows a 20 digit serial number.  I do not have a 24 digit # so is it possible to upgrade?

    The full serial number is available in your account on the Adobe website if you registered the software.

    Unfortunately, it did not occur to me to register the software because it was pre-installed. Also, I did not take advantage of offers to update until this year.  When I purchased the upgrade online and tried to install I found out that I need the full 24 digits.  Guess I will have to return it......  Thanks for the advice.
