Read the system requirements and remember, these are merely minimum recommendations.  You will need additional resources for your OS, Creative Cloud Desktop App, Bridge, Camera Raw and other supporting software.

Photoshop & Lightroom require plenty of physical and RAM memory.  The more you do, the more memory you need.  Best advice, get the best computer you can afford.  If that means going to a desktop instead of laptop then do it.   A cheap, under-powered laptop will be no help to you if it doesn't have sufficient resources.   I agree with other replies so far in that you do get more bang for your buck with Windows than you do with Mac.

A lot of that is going to depend on the kind of photography you do, what you plan to do with the photos once you've taken them, what country you live in, etc.

I mean, first of all, why a laptop? You get a lot more bang for your buck (or pound or euro or whatever) in a desktop.
