Which versions of Adobe Creative Suite will my MacBook 1,1 support?

I purchased the Production Premium for a new desktop, but need to install at least Photoshop and Illustrator on my laptop.  It is a MacBook 1,1.  After spending a day trying to install (including an hour with an apparently clueless technician on the telephone), I did what he said and downloaded a trial version (of Creative Suite, as I didn't want all the other programs and have little room left in my memory).  It downloaded successfully, but then when I tried to open it, I got the message that my MacBook didn't support this version.  I can't work without these two programs.  I have already uninstalled CS2, which didn't support documents created at work (on CS5.5).  Is there any way to upgrade my system or downgrade my backup (to 5.5, if it will work), or do I actually have to buy a new laptop?

Yes. The first generation MacBooks do not support any of the required stuff for newer versions of Adobe products. The last one that would work on your system would be CS4, but that is 2 versions out of date and it still wouldn't open e.g. InDesign CS5.5 files. And no, there is no way to "downgrade". Adobe (and authorized resellers) only sell the latest version.
