I've downloaded the installer, but when I click to run it, it won't open.  I click and nothing happens.

Yes, thank you. After installing 2.0, I decided to go back to 1.7.2. I prefer the darker interface.

Please see Installing Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 in Windows Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/installing-digital-editions-20-windows.html.  We have documented the solution offered by Oneexwidow there.

I had this problem too and had no joy when I tried to run it as Administrator. On going into "Properties" though, I noted that under the General tab, there was a section for "Security" at the bottom with the following message and a button to Unblock:

Unblocking allowed me to run the file alright.

    oneexwidow,

Thank you so much!!!  I tried what you said, and it worked perfectly!  I can't believe you found the answer and Adobe tech support doesn't know about this!  I think they should be aware of this issue.  I remember that file-blocking "feature" being there when looking at file properties before, but I'd forgotten about it and never thought to look there.  I've downloaded maybe hundreds of files and I don't remember having this problem before.  I knew *something* was blocking the file from running though, and I never really bought that it wasn't Vista compatible.  After all, this is the latest version and Vista is old now, since Windows 7 and now 8 have come out.  And as I mentioned, I tried it on my mom's XP computer, and it didn't run on hers either.   I'm not sure when Microsoft introduced the security feature shown above.  I hope that everyone who has this problem can find this thread so they know what to do as well.  I think Adobe should put this on the download page so everyone can see it if they have problems.

    Thanks again for sharing!

On what operating system is this?

I am having the same problem.  Yesterday I checked out an audiobook online from my library that has enhanced content with it that requires Adobe Digital Editions.  I followed the instructions to download it at Adobe's website, but the file won't run.  I noticed that the site says the file is 12.3 MB, but the file that downloads is 5.61 MB.  I tried downloading it several times, and on both my desktop using Chrome and IE, and my laptop using Chrome.  When I try to run the file, it appears to think for a few seconds, then nothing happens.  I also tried right clicking and running as Administrator, but that doesn't do anything either.

I am using a desktop PC with Windows Vista SP2.  I use Google Chrome (current version 22.0.1229.94 m) primarily, but I also had the problem with Internet Explorer 9.  Please let me know if you need any more information.  I hope you can help me solve this soon, since I only have 7 days on my checkout period (now 6 remaining).

Ldaypsalm can you please check your event viewer and see what it reports at the time of installation.  You can find additional details on how to accomplish this at Identify software conflicts | System log | Windows Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/identify-software-conflicts-system-log.html.
