Why does my Mac only support cc2015 edition of the programs?

Hey everyone!

First, I am sorry, I am a complete newbie with Adobe, and not yet a tech-savvy person, so I don't understand why my Mac is not capable of running newer versions than cc2015.

I am a graphic design student using the Adobe Cloud, and the programs I am using are Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

I have a MacBook Air OS X

Version 10.9.5

1,8 GHz

Intel Core i5

4 GB 1600 MHz

I bought it back in 2012 or 2013

I have updated the software to Sierra and deleted almost all of the content to have enough space.

Is it because my Mac is of an older version so it won't support the newer editions or is it some magic trick that I don't know of to make me Mac compatible for using the newer versions?

Personally, I would invest in a new Windows 10 computer with no less than 8 GB of RAM and plenty of physical memory to support your OS + Creative Cloud + your other apps.  You'll get a lot more bang for your buck than you would with a comparable Mac.

Cool, so you are still on 10.9 (Mavericks). You won't be able to run very many modern Mac apps at all.

But I'm puzzled by what you meant when you said "I have updated the software to Sierra "?

Also - and I'm not encouraging you to just upgrade without careful planning - why have you ignored Apple's upgrades for so long?

To be honest, now I am totally confused...

Last year I tried to update it, I thought I had done it, but this August when I started using the Adobe Cloud I went to update it again and it said your Mac is already running Sierra, but now I can't find back to this place where it said this.

I have obviously not done anything right....

I have not ignored upgrades, as I know one should do that, but I haven't been asked to do so, and have not gone in to do it by myself.

Until recently I have just used my Mac for Internet and never did anything "serious" with it.

My technological age is 95 years old, and don't understand almost anything...

Now that I went into the app store, they are telling me to verify the month, day and year of the purchase of my Mac, and I don't remember this...the receipt for the Mac is lost in several movings thru out the years.

Is it hope for me or am I a lost cause when it comes to upgrading the Mac now?

It works like a champ, so it would be such a shame to not be able to use it...

Sorry for being so "stupid" when it comes to this...I am very eager to learn, that is why I have taken the steps to study and become a tech-savvy person in the future.

Hi again!

I called Apple support and they told me to install Mojave and then it would be up to date.

I am doing it now.

Are you familiar with this, am I am on the right track?

Because your Mac is running an old system, I imagine, years out of date. If you choose to run old systems, you can't expect new apps to work; this is getting more and more serious and will get worse. You need to carefully read system requirements. ALSO bear in mind that as you update Mac OS, that other old apps may break and have to be paid for all over again. This is all part of the joy of Mac ownership.

HOWEVER, there is contradictory information in your question, so let's see which part is right.

History first. Mac OS systems:

10.9 (Mavericks) 2013 (This is what you said at the start)

10.10 (Yosemite) 2014

10.11 (El Capitan) 2015

10.12 (Sierra) 2016 (This is what you said later)

10.13 (High Sierra) 2017

10.14 (Mojave) 2018

You have enough memory, just, but the system is critical. What do you actually have? If you don't know how to find out, just let us know, no shame in that.

I hope I did it right, I went to the Apple icon, top left, and Looked at about this Mac.

It says OS X 10.9.5
