Why is my update to Photoshop CC update stuck at 50%?

Newly installed Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC on my Mac Mini with OS X Yosemite.

Photoshop CC(2014)  is installed and usable, but the installer shows an update available. Clicking on update starts it, but it is then stuck at 50% with "Waiting" displayed.

And yes, I already tried:

- rebooting

- canceling and restarting the update

- signing out and back in Creative Cloud.

any help appreciated.

Ok, figured it out. NOT because Adobe helped me in any way....

The trick was running the update process out of a terminall window with "sudo". Example for Lightroom update 6.0.1 - should work for other updates as well:

  • Check that updates were downloaded correctly. Image should be in ~Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater/1.0/Install/AdobeLightroom-6.0/6.0.1
  • cd into this directory, in terminal type (or copy and paste): cd "~Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater/1.0/Install/AdobeLightroom-6.0/6.0.1"
  • open the image by typing "open setup.dmg"
  • Now the volume gets mounted under /Volumes, check by doing: ls /Volumes
  • start the installation process: sudo /Volumes/Lightroom-6.0.1-Update/AdobePatchInstaller.app/Contents/MacOS/AdobePatchInstaller

    Thats it. For whatever reason the patch installer becomes unresponsive after it has done its work, so you might force quit it after the patching is complete.

    This does seem to be a permissions problem, If you are logged into your mac as an administrator but not as the original installation use then this problem seems to occur. I think that although Adobe asks for user credentials it isn't always using them right, hence running updates from the terminal as root fixes it. Loads of people have suffered from this issue for a long time, looking at the boards, so I think Adobe's testing leaves a lot to be desired.

    So, if this is your situation you should be able to get around this problem by doing the following:

    1. Reboot your computer
    2. Log in as the original user set up when the Mac was first set up (not the user you usually log in as)
    3. When the Creative Cloud launcher starts, click to update.
    4. Once the update is downloaded and installed, switch to your usual user and enjoy your updated software.

    This works for me. I hope it works for you.

    Any more ideas? NO upgrade to any Adobe product installed via my Adobe CC subscription is installing. I tried Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC and Bridge.

    All updates are downloaded correctly but do not install.

    When using the Adobe CC Desktop the installer is stuck at 50%.

    When using direct updates I get the error "already running the Adobe Application Manager" (and I checked - I am not).

    Some more details:

    - I had the free trial installed a few months ago and then removed

    - I migrated to a new MAC then

    - Then I subscribed to Adobe CC

    - Current setup: Mac Mini, Yosemite, 16G RAM

    ok, this is not only Photoshop but also Lightroom.

    I now

    - uninstalled both Lightroom, Photoshop and Creative Cloud

    - used the Clean Tool

    - reinstalled Creative Cloud and Lightroom

    Same Problem. I cannot install updates (now as one for Lightroom is available)

    Tried this. When trying to start I get the message that I am "already running the Adobe Application Manager".

    I disabled everything in /Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchDaemons and ~/Library/LaunchAgents with "adobe" in name.

    In the processlist I see

    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Application Manager/IPC/AdobeIPCBroker.app/Contents/MacOS/AdobeIPCBroker -launchedbyvulcan

    When trying to kill it, it restarts....
