Adobe Acrobat does not launch anymore after update to 11.0.9

After updating our clients from Adobe Acrobat 11.0.8 to Adobe Acrobat 11.0.9, we are experience the following issue:

- Mouse cursor flickers, focus is being 'stealed' from active window approx. every 1s.

- Acobrat.exe shows up in task manager, immediately exits again and is being restarted constantly.

- Windows event log has no entries regarding application crashes.

- Various files such as "amt3.log", "oobelib.log" and many instances of "pdapp*.log" appear in user's temp directory.

- No *.swidtag file exists for Adobe Acrobat Pro XI in "C:\ProgramData\regid.1986-12.com.adobe" (is this normal behavior for this product?)

- amt3.log logs the following line: "AMT: Licensing has been refused.  Application must exit."

These symptoms usually appear approx 1 day after the product has been upgraded. Immediately after the update the application launched successfully.

Adobe Acrobat 11 has been customized using "Adobe Customization Wizard 11" and internally deployed using our internal software distribution.

We're using this approach since years now and never had an issue until 11.0.9.

I applied the acrofix.exe from Doesn't launch after 30 days | Installed as part of a CS6 suite to my computer (return code 7). Afterwards, Adobe.exe sometimes did not restart endlessly (does not steal focus) but still does not launch. Reinstalling Adobe Acrobat does not resolve the problem.

According to the logs and activity seen with procmon I suspect an activation/licensing issue. We're running a volume license, our customer id is 53580937.

The contract just has been renewed.

Could someone from Adobe please check our licensing status or whether the serial numbers have been changed?

The issue is somewhat urgent as we cannot deploy 11.0.9 to our users to fix the security issues.

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards,

Nik

I think I now have found a workaround to my issue:

I saw that AMT is detecting the product language as en_GB instead of en_US so I played with the ACW11 settings.
I recreated the MSI/MST using ACW11 and changed the following options:

Serial Number -> “Grant Offline Exception”
Installation options\Set the language to the OS language, but let the user… -> deactivated

Maybe I'm just masking the root cause of the error this way but at least it works. After several starts of Adobe Acrobat, the product now properly goes from serialized to activated state.
At that point I also get a swid.tag file in “C:\ProgramData\regid.1986-12.com.adobe\”

amt3.log in user's temp then has the following entries:

...

AMT: AMT: Product License Validated.

...
AMT: Application licensing status has changed to activated.

...
AMT: Prevalidate indicates license is good and no UI required.

...

...

Nik

How was the product installed?  Is there any error?  Does AAM (Adobe Application Manager ) pop up momentarily?

Hi Sabian,

The product has been installed by calling msiexec. The msi itself has been customized by a transform created using Adobe Customization Wizard 11.

The installation itself runs fine and without errors. When the user tries to launch Adobe Acrobat he gets the effect as listed in my description above.

There are no error messages / windows visible at that stage.

What was interesting: Once I manually reserialized Acrobat using "adobe_prtk --tool=Serialize --leid=V6{}AcrobatPro-AS2-Win-GM --serial=<SN> --regsuppress=ss"

I once received an activation error one day later, then clicked "try again" and since then I have no further prompts and the error's gone. However, that's something I cannot tell our hundreds of users...

I'm currently working with Adobe Support on this, case# is 185947963.
