Adobe Update Server Setup Inquiry

Hello Everyone,

I have decided to setup an Adobe Update Server for our micro college. We have about 125 Macs and 25 Windows. They are all managed with Serial licenses because any Faculty student can walk up and use them without signing in. (There is no manager application, I run RUM by Terminal). Currently we have to utilize the RemoteUpdateManager program to got out to the internet to each pull their updates, thus the appeal of setting up the server to point these computers to pull the data intra-wise. Anyway, we were planning to setup a Apache web server with a few hundred gigs but I have two generally quick questions.

Does the update Server OS have to match the Client OS? If I make an OS X Server will it also be able to facilitate the Window 10 machines? Basically a server that will be pointed and updates pulled by both machines, or do we need to make two servers?

Is the OS a Desktop varient or can we use a server variant OS like windows 2012 or 2016?
