AUSST Crashes

I've setup AUSST on a physical server running Windows Server 2012 R2, which has been working well. Later I virtualized that server to a VMWare virtual machine. Now whenever I run the same commands for either an incremental or fresh sync, nothing runs, and I eventually receive a Windows error dialog box stating that the AdobeUpdateServerSetupTool has crashed.

The Event Viewer lists a 1005 error, but doesn't specific which files can't be accessed.

A disk check on the drive that contains the update files does not show anything wrong. I have also run a sfc /scannow, and have downloaded the latest AUSST files as well. I am now at a loss as to what the problem is.

Any advice on where I can look next? I have inserted a screenshot of the error:
