Cannot install Adobe Reader with VMware App Volumes

Hi,

We are trying to provision Adobe Reader on an RDS Server.

Every time we run any form of Adobe Reader installer during this provision it fails with "The system cannot open the device or file spedified."

Has anyone had this issue or know how to get it to work.

Thanks

You appear to be using a different VMWare product (Apps Volumes) than has been tested by Adobe (Horizon).   The supported VMWare environment is listed in the ETK as follows:

VMware Horizon Deployments — Acrobat Virtualization Guide

Hello Jsonpe,

We're sorry for the trouble you are having with Adobe Reader. This error has two common cause:

  • The installation file does not exist.
  • Antivirus software is preventing the file from being installed.

Use Acrobat cleaner tool to remove any corrupt or damaged installation file of Adobe Reader Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot/log off the machine if possible. Then for temporarily, disable any security software installed, download Adobe Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Run the setup as 'Run as Administrator', complete the installation process and check.

let us know if you experience any issue.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Anand,

to answer your comments :

  • The installation file(s) do exist. I have run it both with the main package file and with extracting the files to a directory and running it from there.
  • There is no antivirus running on the servers at time of installation.
  • Running as administrator does not help either
  • Reboots do not help either
  • downloaded from multiple places and none work

If I do not try and provision the package using VMware App Volumes, it installs/updates without any issue. As soon as I put the server in provision mode the installation fails.
