Question

Cannot install any of the substance products through creative cloud.

Hello, I am a teacher for a class of game dev students and we have just encountered an issue while
trying to download substance painter and any other substance products through the creative cloud.

We have gotten access to the student and teacher educational plan for substance, but when the students log in to creative cloud app, substance does not appear to be part of their plan in the app, but it shows as being part of their plan on adobe's website with the same account.

Whenever the students also try to install any substance products, using a downloadable installer or the following link
https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop?action=install&source=apps&productId=substance3d-painter
the creative cloud does not start a download, no error messages or anything.
Whenever the students click "read more" or "install" on the substance products, creative clouds desktop flickers, but does not move on to some other download screen.

Any other product they have access to through the creative cloud plan starts to install without issue.

I have seen this issue reported before, but I need to make a difference here clear, the students HAVE a regular creative cloud plan BUT also they have submitted and gotten the product codes for the educational plan for substance. We are not in any process of having to aquire the licenses, we already should have access to substance and the website says it is part of the plan while the desktop app does not.

Hi, @Tom28347549ngi1 if the students are facing an issue while downloading the app, I would suggest you to please connect with your IT admin and ask them to create a package with CC Apps (including Substance) and deploy/install it on the machines.

Thanks!

This i have done, but as i have some previous experience with IT, and the IT department said they were gonna contact Adobe either way, I also wanted to report this myself to see if i could help solve it on my end.

@Tom28347549ngi1

the most likely issue is a failure of student computers to meet specs, so check if the student computers meet specs, https://substance3d.adobe.com/documentation/spdoc/technical-requirements-172824034.html

if they do and @Kevin Stohlmeyer's fails to help, for a problematic computer

reset the cc desktop app by making sure it's in the foreground, then press:

Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

I am suspecting something on the computer's side too, but as we get no popup explaining the issue and cc desktop only "flickers" kinda when we start trying to install it we don't have much to go on.

We have also tried resetting, but the problem remains

it's easy to check if the computers meet the required specs,  https://substance3d.adobe.com/documentation/spdoc/technical-requirements-172824034.html

You should be downloading from your Creative Cloud desktop app. Have the students log out and back in to the creative cloud desktop app and see if it updates with the new plan.

This does not work as Substance on the app has no option to install for us, only to Read More which opens the adobe website in the browser
