Cannot make customization wizard work to change registry

I am trying to use the Adobe Customization Wizard to add a setting into the HKCU part of the registry. However, I have done exactly as I have read but it does not work. The key appears pink and the name and data are in the wizard, but it does not change the install. Has anyone successfully change the HKCU part of the registry using the Customization wizard? Thank you.
