How do I specify install directory for packages installed on Windows clients?

This article (Creative Cloud Help | Creating or editing packages) mentions that you must specify the install location at the command line in Windows for CC packages:

Installation’s location

The Application Manager offers you the following choices for the deployment location:

    • Deploy to default application directory: The default drive is the system drive; the default path is \Program Files in Windows and /Applications in Mac OS.
    • Specify directory during deployment: Allows the end users to specify the installation path during the deployment of the package. On Mac OS users are prompted on the user interface, while on Windows this is a command line option only.
    • Specify directory: Enter the path to the location to a specific installation location

I selected "Specify directory during deployment" when I built the package.  I've also added parameters to the Exceptions Deployer batch files (Creative Cloud Help | Using Adobe Exceptions Deployer) that indicate the install location for the exceptions.

How do I access the command line options during install?

  • I've tried setup.exe /?, and setup.exe -?, and the install just continues right on the C: driver (which is small SSD drive; need to install on the 1TB SATA drive on this HP Workstation).
  • I looked at the command line options for the MSI file, and there are none to change the installation location.

Is there a post somewhere that explains this?  I've had no luck with my searches in the forums on the web.

When the configuration " Specify directory during deployment" is selected then you may need to use a deployment tool to deploy this package and need to call .msi for installation.

Hopefully below Microsoft article can help. it has all the command line to install msi.

Is there anything more helpful that could be shared than "you may need to use a deployment tool" to solve this problem?  Investing time in setting up and maintaining a deployment tool because the Adobe CC packages won't prompt for installation location is not helpful, and is pushing the problem on to someone else to solve.  Help for the guys who don't use deployment tools would be appreciated.

This doesn't fully address your query, but there's an example of how to use it on this related forum thread:
