current state:

50+ Mac users on various builds of Adobe apps under Enterprise license

users were installed/setup via Adobe Admin build process, locally installed

goal state:

build via Adobe Admin

deploy via managed packages in ARD

questions:

will the user end up with two of every app?

how to keep user's InDesign workspace, app preferences while doing cutover?

Thanks in advance for you expertise!

Hello,
If the users have the same versions of Adobe Apps that you are trying to install then those will overwrite, if they have different versions then the new version of the app will install, and also the other versions will remain on the machine.

Installing the package will not remove the preferences of the application. Users should be able to use the same preferences as before. This option to remove prefernces comes when the user tries to uninstall the app via Creative cloud desktop app.

If the user wants to keep the preferences, the files are located in Users/Appdata/Adobe on Windows and /User Library/Preferences on MAC. They can keep the backup of these folders and once you install the application they can check and if they do not see the old setting then they can paste the old settings from back to the same location and restart the application and they will have the same settings.

Thanks,

thanks, very helpful.

However, have come upon an unexpected scenario. Installing the  managed package (where users can no longer control things in  Creative Cloud) also leads to the problem of how do we:

1. deploy a managed package with no user permission to alter it (for our core suite of Acro, Bridge, Indd, Illus, PShop)

2. also offer users the ability to download, remove, upgrade -  non managed apps they may wish to use within their suite (After Effects, Lightroom, Dreamweaver,  etc)?

it appears that  no solution is possible from Adobe yet here.

If you want to both:

a. manage a core suite of apps

b. allow users to access non-managed apps

you wont be able to do this due to the current limitations of Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App (Adobe refers to as CCDA).

It is not possible to run Adobe apps without also having Creative Cloud installed and working, using an MDM management setup will also not work.

Please feature request this from Adobe now by going to:

Thanks for you help here as we urge Adobe to take care of this long standing limitation, it is time to grow Creative Cloud Desktop!
