Question

I need to complete Form CT600 for HMRC and it does not work because HMRC help desk said that I have Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I have tried to download Adobe Reader but the system will not let me and it tells me I have a more uptodate version (Acrobat Reader) on the computer.

I use Windows 7.

What can I do?

It's a common problem, I think, nothing to do with versions. You are trying to view the PDF in the browser? Don't. Just save it to your desktop and open in Adobe Reader.

I have completed the CT600 by using the computer of a friend that has the old version of Adobe Reader.Thank you for the help. I will bear it in mind when I have to complete the next CT600 for HMRC.

Hey Angela,

You might check under "Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features" whether Adobe Reader exists under the list of all installed programs on your computer.

OR, you can simply run the cleaner tool to remove all traces of Reader version installed on your computer and then install Adobe Reader DC (latest version) from here:

Thank you for the e-mail.

What I did in the end was to try a couple of other computers that belong to friends who do not have the latest version, Acrobat Reader, and i managed to file the tax return. I did not want to miss the deadline for HMRC and incur penalties!

The problem is that offices and large corporation do not use the latest version of software (Windows, Adobe etc) as it would be too expensive to upgrade every time there is an update!

I will keep your e-mail as I may have to follow your advice when I file the next CT600 return for HMRC!
