Installation failure at 54% error 1636

Hi,

Cant install adobe reader on a users PC. keeps failing at 54%. Tried allowing the app through the firewall, tried running as admin. Rebooted the pc. tried several networks but it keeps failing at 54%. 

 

The PC in question is controlled by our company so it has the same firewall policies/GPO's as the rest. The device in question is a Dell latitude 5550.

 

Log from latest installation. all the logs fail with 1636 erorr. Also attached the rest of the log files i could find that seems to be connected to adobe.

Hi,

Deleting the folders and a reboot did it. Thanks! 

 

On another note is it possible to get a "Full" adobe reader installer? 

Its one of the few programs i havent been able to push out as automatic deployment on devices since its an online installer.

Im guessing DC is the application preferred but since our users are used to reader that would be preferred for our situation.

If you are looking to automatically deploy Reader across multiple devices, you can use the unified installer, which allows both users and enterprise administrators to install and manage Acrobat. You can disable mandatory sign-in through the registry key or the Customization Wizard. When sign-in is disabled, the product functions as Acrobat for users with a paid subscription and as Reader for users who are signed out, enabling both behaviors within a single installation. Thank you for reaching out and for sharing the logs. Based on the information provided, the failure occurs after extraction at the MSI execution stage. The installer does not proceed to start the Reader setup interface or the core installation, and instead exits as soon as it attempts to run the MSI. This behavior can occur due to a corrupted MSI/MSP package, a mismatch between the package and the operating system (such as language or regional installer differences), or remnants of a previous Adobe Reader installation interfering with setup.

I recommend starting with a cleanup of the existing setup cache. Please delete any leftover setup folders under the following paths:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\Setup\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Reader\Temp\
C:\Users<User>\AppData\Local\Adobe\

After deleting these folders, reboot the PC.

If the issue persists, try using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, which is designed to help clean up corrupted installations. Guidance for preparing and running the tool can be found here: https://adobe.ly/3I666OC

This process will remove broken registry entries and cached MSI data.

Also ensure that antivirus or endpoint protection is not blocking MSI execution during installation.

Hi thanks for the reply. 

Is that not the autodownloader aswell? since its only 1,6mb. 

Ill try this on the users computer tomorrow morning. The adobe Auto cleaner has been tested aswell and it could not find an installation of adobe but i didnt try to target it to a specific directory.
