Patching aip to 11.0.01

My understanding is that the best practice is to patch the aip to the latest version and do upgrades from that patched version rather than patch individual installs (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I patched my 11.0.00 install to 11.0.01.  The patch process went fine, but when I try to then run it against my current 11.0.00 install, it says that anothther version is already installed and installation cannot continue.  Would appreciate some guidance on this.

I'm not clear on what you did. You throw away the old AIP and create a new one.

Verify you have followed all the steps described here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/aip.html.

What I did was essentially what is seen here:

Except that mine was with version 11 and patch 11.0.01. When you say you throw away the aip, I don't understand the logic in that.  If I make a new aip of version 11.0.00, will it not be the same as my current aip of version 11.0.00?  What I tried to do was patch my existing 11.0.00 aip.  It DID patch, when when I tried to install it, it says that the product is already installed.
