Im worried my personal files are accessible to everyone on my personal Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription once I joined my company's Adobe for Teams

ADOBE ENTERPRISE LICENSE? I have sensitive information on my personal creative cloud Subscription under the same email as Adobe for Teams ADOBE ENTERPRISE LICENSE.

Can anybody calm my nerves and explain how they are or aren't linked so that everybody can't view my tax documents on my personal account now that my same email is also linked to a ADOBE ENTERPRISE LICENSE.

Short Answer:

Assets and files stored in your Creative Cloud account are only accessible to you unless you've shared them with others.

Long answer:

Adobe support several types of accounts. Adobe IDs are owned and managed by the users, so all assets are owned and controlled by the individual user. Business accounts (such as Teams and Enterprise plans) support other types: Business IDs, Enterprise IDs, and Federated IDs. For more details see, Understanding Identity. The email that you use to sign in, is just a convenient handle for you to sign-in. Usually, users just have a single account linked to an email address.

However, you may have multiple plans linked to the email address. In case, of multiple accounts, once you enter your email, you'll be prompted to choose between a personal and school/business account or profile. For more information, see Enterprise ID FAQs. Each account or profile is connected to its own Storage account and these are separate from each other. The only link between these accounts is the email address used to sign in. Again, only you have access and control over these assets and these are not visible to other users unless you've shared it with them.

For businesses, Adobe also provides Storage for business. This storage only works with managed IDs (Business IDs, Enterprise IDs, and Federated IDs) It provides some additional benefits, including the ability for Admins to reclaim assets from a user. So if there are assets in your business storage account, Admins can reclaim these assets when the user is removed or deleted from the account.

So in your case, there are two possibilities right now:

1. You've joined your team with an Adobe ID. In this case, you have complete control of your assets. Admins can't reclaim any assets from Adobe IDs.

2. You've joined your team using a Business ID. In this case, on the removal of the account Admins have the ability to reclaim your assets. Admins can monitor storage usage and can check consumption, but can not browse through your assets.

So either way, your assets are safe!

A bonus complication

Adding this for sake of completeness. (Admins are informed well in advance of the migration)

We're gradually migrating business accounts over to use Adobe Storage for business to unlock the additional features for businessess. For users, this means that Adobe IDs will be migrated to Business IDs. You'll move from case #1 to case #2. All assets are preserved, asset migration depends on which plans you currently have. For example:

  • If you have only one plan -- provided by your team: All assets are migrated to your Business ID. This is the vast majority of users.
  • If you have a combination of a personal plan and one plan provided by your team -- You'll be asked to choose where you want to move your assets. Personal or Team.
  • If you have multiple plans provided by business orgs -- All your assets remain in your personal plan. (In this case, we have no way of knowing which assets belong to which business)
