Remote Update Manager - Some Update, Some Don't!

Greetings:

I am responsible for weekly updates of the computers in our journalism department. We are pretty much a Mac shop running El Cap, and we are using CC 2015 across all of our iMacs.

I am finding that RemoteUpdateManager is kinda like chasing one's tail. In the summer, I have gotten a number of updates that failed, only to have to dig until I've found on the Internet that there was a RemoteUpdateManager update. It would be very handy to know just how I can be informed of such updates so that I don't have to wait until putting in time and effort with updates not working before learning of a new update. If there's a way that I can be notified, please let me know.

I am using the current version, which is 1.10.0.6. When I run the update, the results are mixed in that some applications are updated, but others aren't, and the updates end with "Return Code (2)." I would then try repeating the RUM command in an attempt to complete the updates that did not take, but again I ended up with the errors.

When this happens, how is it that I can get the remaining applications that failed to run successful installations? It would be ideal if these things were fixed, but I'm unsure if the issues are occurring on my end or Adobe's end.

Thank you.

Velanche

Typically an error 2 with RUM (One or more updates could not be installed) indicates that the applications were running and therefore could not be updated.

To be sure you should check the log

The log file is named RemoteUpdateManager.log and is located as follows:

    • In Windows, the log file is in the %temp% location.
    • In Mac OS, the log file is in the folder ~/Library/Logs

    Use Adobe Remote Update Manager

Thanks for the reply, alisterblack. I'm unsure if the affected applications were opened, especially if some are the same. On the other hand, I did notice a few with another application that fail to install.

I will check the logs, and I will also consider rebooting the computers before using RUM. I will have another opportunity on Friday and then early next week, and will monitor things.

    Again, I appreciate the input.
