Question

Remote workers

Hello, I was wondering how some of you are managing remote work and Adobe Creative Cloud. We do design and video work so our main apps are INDD, PS, ILL, and Premier/AfterEffects. We currently have an on premises file server with most of our work on it. For file intensive users we use a mix of VPN and a local Mac for them to remote into so they have local network access. VPN proves too slow for any Adobe app to function. We are considering moving this location and as a result I expect more users to become remote. What are some of the most effective solutions for this type of workflow? How are these challenges being addressed?

Kind regards,

BW

    I use basically 3 systems:

    • VPN access: works fine as long as you have a fast internet line. This works fine, except for video.
    • Guacamole Remote Desktop: works good with anything that does not need colour faith and real-time video. This requires a running computer at the office site.
    • Local access, file transfers via the cloud. Works best and fastest, but your data needs to be located on the cloud, obviously.
    • For video, you could also try out Frame.io, Team Projects and Productions. As my video productions are more single user, multiple locations and most of my video projects are from before these options came to my Creative Cloud, I stay old school.

In addition, I'm using multiple external hard disks, where I have duplicated the source data. I do, however, avoid to store there any data that is modified. The external hard disks simply replace my old videotapes, that I stored 20 to 30 years ago in special racks. You could consider this as an external video cache.

I have in all locations a powerful desktop computer capable of handling all data without a hassle. My only weak point here is my years' old laptop computer, that I will probably need to replace somewhere soon.
