Silent Install of Acrobat Pro 7.0 fails with Error 1404

Hi,

I'm trying to silently install Acrobat Pro 7.0.

I have created the MST using the Installshield Tuner 7.0, and use the following command line to install:

msiexec /i acropro.msi TRANSFORMS=mytransform.mst /qb

I am getting the following error message:

Error 1404.Could not delete key
\software\Classes\CLSID\{CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}
Verify you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
----

If i repeat the command without the /qb, and do a manual install (msiexec /i acropro.msi TRANSFORMS=mytransform.mst), it installs without error, so the problem only exists in a silent install.

System Specs:
Windows XP SP2 with all MS patches to march 2007
Acrobat Reader 8.0
Base image created by SYSprep, and then using Altiris Rdeploy.

I'm suspecting that a MS patch has locked down that part of the registry, and the Acrobat Pro MSI doesn't have the code to handle this in a silent install.

I have opened the MSI using Wise installer Pro, and can't see anything strange in it.

Any help/pointers would be a great help

I become more disenchanted MS-OS everyday I use it. Maybe Linux is the new Gold Standard to use if you want to avoid the hassles like this one.

We are having the same issue but I have an admin install patched to version 7.1.0. Is there a patch file for version 7.1.0?

Where can i download the fix that MarkATS refers to? The one about patched 7.09 admin installs?

With Reader 8 previously installed? You shouldn't have this problem.

Thanks for that info. Had a hard time finding that patch, only managed thru a google search which found a link you posted in another thread on this forum.

Another question:

So, this is sort of a known issue. We have a fix available, but it only fixes it in a case where you have created an admin install point and patched it up to 7.0.9.

In your case, it's not so simple. For now, I think your only options are either to remove Reader 8, install Acrobat 7, apply the patches, then reinstall Reader 8. Or, leave Reader 8 on the machine, make an AIP patched to 7.0.9, apply the Fix_Admin709 file to the AIP, then install 709.
