We are having trouble deciphering how to upgrade our machines to the latest adobe cc software. we deployed by device 2 years ago and now we want to get the latest versions. when we used the creative cloud app, it installed a trial version of the newest software piece that we chose to update.

If you installed the Desktop App and then signed in, it will have checked for entitlement. If your Adobe ID has no entitlement then the app will become a trial version.
To fix this run the device license again - Create packages with Adobe Creative Cloud for education device licenses
