Question

We use Premiere 25.5.0 build 13 and we have been experiencing performance issues and freezes. Computer is built by Puget Systems. We use a 10Gbps network storage. We edit 720p files.  Is there a better enterprise version we should use?

There are ample resources and computer operates at 15-20% performance.  But Premiere freezes up and commands lag over time and quick use of keystrokes.

What version could we use that’s better?

    Hi @angular_calmness6bb3,

Thank you for reaching out. Freezes and delayed commands in the middle of an edit are disruptive, especially when the machine itself is barely being pushed at 15-20%.

From what you’ve shared, Premiere 25.5.0 (build 13) on your Puget Systems workstation starts to freeze and lag on keystrokes the longer you work, with 720p media on 10Gbps network storage. You’d also like to know whether a different version would suit you better.

On the version side, Creative Cloud for teams supports the latest version of Premiere and the previous major version. Both can be installed from the Creative Cloud desktop app or from the Admin Console. The long term supported version is only available on enterprise plans. You can see how this works here: https://helpx.adobe.com/support/programs/cc-support-policy.html

A version change on its own may not clear the freezing, so a few details would help us narrow it down:

    1. Where do your media, the project file, and the media cache files sit? Is everything on the network storage, or is any of it on a local drive?

    2. Does it still freeze if you copy a few clips and a test project to the local drive?

    3. What format and codec are the 720p files (for example H.264 or ProRes)?

In the meantime, this page covers clearing media cache files and managing the media cache database: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere/desktop/troubleshooting/playback-issues/choppy-playback-and-poor-performance-issue.html

Please share these details and we’ll take it from there.

    Thanks,
    ^AV
