Flash 9 Installed but not detected

I have installed flash player 9 on my computer. according to adobe's website it's installed however any time i go to a website requiring flash it says that i need to download flash player 9. i have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times yet the same symptoms occur. the weird thing is that there are two user accounts on my computer. one of them has no problem with flash and the other account does. i've tried setting up a new user account to see if flash would work on another account and it will not. all of the user accounts have administrator rights. i am really confused at this point and don't know what else to try. i am also running ie7 and this problem didn't start until i downloaded ie7. it seems that there are a lot of people out there having trouble with flash 9 and ie7. i have tried to email adobe about the issue but i have not heard back from them. does anyone have any suggestions. thanks for your help in advance!

The install process for the new 9.0 release of Flash Player, unlike that of previous releases, does NOT grant all users appropriate access to the various Flash registry items. It grants access ONLY to the administrative user who performs the install.

Thus, ALL other users on the same machine can NOT even USE Flash Player 9.0. (That is, most web sites won't recognize that it's been installed.) I used Adobe's uninstall program to remove those registry items (the uninstall must be run by the administrative user who installed Flash Player 9, NOT by any other administrative user), and was able to install Flash Player 9.0 using a different administrative account than the original one I used, but this means the original administrative user no longer has access to Flash Player.

This is NOT true of Flash Player 8.0, which is installed on our other two machines and works fine with multiple users because the Flash registry items all have appropriate access for all users, access granted by the Flash Player 8.0 install. (That is, any administrative user can update Flash Player 8.0 and any limited user can USE Flash Player 8.0.)

Let's be clear about this. If you view any of the Flash Player registry items after 9.0 is installed, only one user has ANY rights to the registry items. Other users, including administrative users, cannot even VIEW the registry items.

For Flash Player 9.0 to be designed so that its install grants access to the Flash registry items to just a single user, and thereby makes Flash Player unusable for all other users on the same machine, is a step backward from previous releases and a fundamental flaw that needs addressing.

I think I finally have a solution to this problem. It's been annoying me for the past few months. I'm 13 and like to use some of my spare time watching videos on YouTube. Then one day it told me that Flash Player 9 needed to be installed. So I did that and from then on I couldn't view Flash anywhere. It kept telling me I had to install Flash Player. I kept on trying to find a way to fix it and tried all the stuff mentioned here but nothing worked for me. Then I found this complete standalone installer that finally fixed the problem ! This is what you should do...

    1. Download the un-installer and un-install Flash Player.

    2. Then restart your computer.

    3. Go to the Adobe website and install Flash Player again. The address is below.

    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BIOW

    4. Next, download the standalone installer. It can be found from this address, just copy and paste it into your browser.
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_active_x.msi

    After downloading it, install it.

    5. Done ! Go and check whatever you wanted to play to see if Flash works again. If it doesn't, restart your computer and try again.

Note: I have Microsoft Windows Home Edition SP2. I also have IE7. I do not know if it will work with Professional or other systems.

I hope this helps some people, it sure helped me.

    Regards.

(your post is old, but this might help others w/ the same problem) Ok, what most likely happened is that u ran a reg. cleaner of some kind (and manipulated the flash player functions), contracted a streaming virus, and/or the flash player was afoul for some reason unknown to yourself. HERE IS THE SOLUTION!!!! (for windows)

    1.Go to your sart tab
    2. click on "run"
    3. type in: SYSTEM32 (then press run/enter)
    4. once the screen opens look for and open the tab/folder labeled: Macromed!!!!!!
    5. then click on the flash floder/icon
    6. inside there should be an icon to re-load/re-program/re-install.... do it and your problems are gone!!!!
If that doesnt work, your pc is really mess up!!!!!! BEST OF LUCK!

Well, I have been having the same problem with the darn flash player. I finally found this forum and read through it. Someone said that when they downloaded flash it was going to their netscape browser even though netscape was not their default browswer so I went through my programs and tried lifetimetv.com/games with my Mozilla foxfire browser and it recgonizes the active x. It is not my default browser but I guess I am going to make it my default browser. I am tired of fooling with this darn problem. Hope this helps someone.

That's not a solution to the problem, its just avoiding it and hiding the
symptoms. Obviously, using IE will avoid problems with Netscape and
Firefox, using Firefox will avoid problems with IE and Netscape etc etc.

Probably another anti-MS fanatic wanting to promote their favorite minority
    browser :)

Hi, I had the same problems. I tried everything and am just short of reinstalling the entire operating system. BUT, I found a way that works!!!! It's not a complete answer but hey, it works! I've been trying it with the Internet Explorer browser. TRY installing the NETSCAPE browser. It's free. I tried it - it works! I didn't even have to reinstall the flash player. It read it from all my previous tries. Good luck, Regan

First, get rid of IE7 via control panel - ad/remove programs, etcc.. As much as I like the tab feature and options improvements, it is NOT worth it. Now for the fix (at leasr for youtube.com and vh1.com):
    On http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=d9c2fe33 , you’ll find a link to download Flash Player 7r68.
“Windows Flash Player, Internet Explorer: Download (571 K) “
This link gives you an option to save the file. Save it to your HD and then open, run and , wala. Fixed!
I don’t know if it’s IE7 or Flash 9, but the combo definitely is awful. Regards,

Ok I solved this by getting rid of Shockwave... first off I couldn't even install Flash 9, kept getting the ", but after uninstalling Shockwave it installed and seems to be working so far. Just got to work out how I can view Shockwave sites without using Shockwave now!!

Wasn't going to take the time to fill out the info in order to reply, but felt others may benefit. I too, have had many of the same problems with Flash 9. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, uninstalled Shockwave, tried to install Flash 9 again, rebooted my computer I don't know how many times, followed all instructions on Adobe support, tried a few of the other suggestions on this forum, took it to a computer science grad, etc. etc. and nothing worked. On November 20, Reproman66 posted a link for a standalone install of Flash 9. Thanks!!!! In the span of 1 minute I had Flash 9 installed!
