I have been trying to install Flash Player for three days now. I have gone through every support step that was listed and still I can't see any content. Started with the install, didn't work; next came the unistall and reinstall didn't work. Upgraded browser, didn't work. Checked IE settings, didn't work. Checked Admin access, didn't work. Look in registry (as per adobe support instructions), nothing wrong. I also have Norton Internet Utilities and I went into the firewall settings and allowed all active x and flash content, still nothing.

Please, please, please, help!

SubInACL worked great, but you need to follow through with all the steps Darren gives you to make sure that you are not running the fix without having the conditions. Kudos to Adobe for taking the time to call from CA to PA and fixing a Microsoft problem! If more companies support pages were like this, there would be a lot more happy users. Listen to what Darren has to say, he knows what he is talking about. Well, again, thank you to Adobe and happy flash design!!!

    I tried:

    1) uninstall flashplayer (clean uninstall), delete everything within the flash folder
    2) double check registry "permission" all set
    3) download SubInACL and installed
    4) download reset_minimal into the tools folder, run DOS, press OK
    5) go back to flashinstall in IE...

Guess what? I'm wasting another half of hour!

SO CAN YOU PUT ALL THE INSTRUCTION AND PROCESS TOGETHER? Let any visa and IE7.0 user to clearly understand what's going on? Did I miss anything again?

    PLEASE!!!!!!

Here are the instructions to fix a corrupt Windows System Registry again also listed on the Adobe Flash Player Support Page

    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166

To fix these Windows system registry permission conflicts you can use Microsoft’s SubInACL tool.

Please download Microsoft’s tool to your desktop.

    http://www.supportflash.com/reset_min.zip

    1. Login as the User that has the incorrect permissions in the system registry
    2. unzip the “reset_minimal.cmd” and the “subinacl.exe” to the desktop

*** Make sure both files are on the desktop

    3. Close out all applications
    4. Run the “reset.cmd” file
    5. It will open a DOS like terminal and start running through registry keys
    6. When it is finished it will say “press any key to continue”
    7. At this point you can download the latest Flash Player from here:

    www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

If you need support please open a case with Adobe Support:

I nearly give up.... I exactly followed every step, but still blank!

Is it because the reset_minimal?? when I run it, some info inside says "...denied" , but in registry, I give already full authority!

    Hi Darren,
I created a simple .net browser based on Internet Explorer and it will display flash content with no problem, but IE7 hangs at 100% cpu! I've set the IE security settings as shown above but it doesn't seem to matter. If you could help me out it would be great as I'm really sick of this problem and the wife can't view her usual websites!! Thanks.

    Hi Adrian,

The security settings mentioned above are for viewing Flash content and will not affect memory issues encountered with IE7.

What is the URL that causes the CPU to hang at 100%?

    Hi Darren,
any website with Flash content will cause a hang, including the Adobe Homepage.

    Whew!

    Fixed it!

In addition to Flash Player not working in IE7 under Vista SP1, we discovered Windows Media Player 11 was also not working.

The cure for that also cured our Flash Player problem! Read it here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/925704/en-us

Assuming you have tried all the various fixes above, and we did, then essentially what you do is the following: (At least in Vista. XP may not need an elevated command prompt, so this can be run from the Run box.)

Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right Click on Command Prompt and Click "Run As Administrator" (This is considered an elevated command prompt.)

Click on "Continue" in UAC box that will pop up.

Type the following at the prompt: (Note space between 2 and j)

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    Hit enter

You should get an “Installation OK” confirmation or similar. OK out of that.

Now type the following at the prompt: (Note space between 2 and v)

    regsvr32 vbscript.dll

You should get an “Installation OK” confirmation or similar. OK out of that.

Flash Player 9.0.115.0 will not work in IE7 on our install of Vista Ulitimate SP1, but it does work in Firefox 2 on the same install of Vista SP1. (Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 4 gig RAM)

We have opened Case # 0180090232 on this, but the only reply was to run FlashUtile.exe as an Administrator, which we have already done countless times along with absolutely everything else as suggested in this thread and elsewhere.

If this is, as Adobe claims, a simple permissions issue in Vista, why can’t they simply provide step by step instructions as to which permissions need to be changed?

We ran both the minimal and full scripts under SubInACL to no avail, turned off all firewall, anti-virus and spyware, and set all security settings to low or off.

We can’t even access our bank accounts.

This is an extremely widespread problem as is obvious in this and other forums. I assume we have no choice but to start complaining to each website that uses Flash, since Adobe seems unable or unwilling to provide a solution to those on the Flash Player side. We urge others having the same problem to do so as well.

If websites would stop using Flash, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help resolve our problem.

    Dear Darren,

Thanks for helping me. However, the problem remains after installing Flash Player 9.0.115.0. I uninstalled the older version of Flash Player just like you said, and Adobe's version test detects Flash Player 9.0.115.0, but it still doesn't show Flash content in Internet Explorer.

This whole discussion is quite scary to me. I have had the same problem installing Flash Player -- on a brand new system that has the whole Production Suite on it. Yet I can't play Flash files (ironic). The warnings that the fix, if done incorrectly, can "result in serious system damage" has prompted me to decide to stay away from Flash. There is no way I can take such a risk. I will stick with Quicktime.

    Hello Darren,

I've got problems with Flash Player 9 since I downloaded the newest update. I've tried everything, including your advices but also those from other persons. I'm desperate to get things working again. I've got a Windows XP Home and IE7. Things I tried are:
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling
    - Standalone installer
    - SYSTEM32 (removed Flash folder after uninstall)
    - SubInACL
    - Installed previous versions of Flash Player
    - Done every single step from Adobe Support
    - Regedit
    - And many more....

Adobe's version test says I've installed version 9,0,115,0, but it doesn't work at sites (like zootycoon.com). It's really annoying, because I now can't update my own site. I even can't see it.... :(

    Please help,
    Sophie

P.S.: Sorry if my English's bad. I'm Dutch and only fifteen... :)

    Dear Sophie,

Thank you for providing details! For others reading this post, these forums are for user-to-user discussion. However, this example of proper communication shows how important it is to provide the appropriate information needed to help each other. Also if you’re submitting a case for Adobe support it is also critical to include as much detail as possible. Stating that “Flash Player won’t install” will not help solve the problem.

Sophie, you stated the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted, the system that you’re working on and the issue you’re encountering. The screenshots are an added bonus and the third screenshot identifies the issue.

The detection site shows that you are using an older version of Flash Player 8.0.22.0. The latest version is 9.0.115.0. Please remove the older version and install the latest version for Flash Player.

Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player:

    1. First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
    2. Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close all running programs.
    3. Open the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash.
    4. Run the uninstaller.
    5. What files are left in this folder? C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash?
    6. If there are files left, delete the Flash folder.
    7. Install the Flash Player from here:

    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

    8. Test the Flash Player here:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/

Make sure it detect Flash Player 9.0.115.0

I hope that you are still with Adobe. I read your previous notes on
the Forum site and hope that you can give me the same assistance that you provided to others. I tried almost everything you suggested with any success of viewing videos on Yahoo and ABC news. I have the lates version of XP on my computer and it is just been recently that I haven't been able to view videos and ABC news on the Yahoo site. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Thanks 1957cyp,

If you follow these troubleshooting steps and the issue remains, I would suggest that you please open a support case with Adobe. From what I have noticed, the steps provide here solve the majority of the reasons why the ActiveX installer fails to install, but you need to follow the instructions carefully. If you open a support case and still need help, please let me know.
