substance for blender

Hi

Is it normal for it to take a long time to open a Substance file in Blender using the addon?

I have a Substance file with 6 graphs for 6 different objects and when I open it in Blender using the addon it takes 10 minutes, and the graphs are not even very big.

Thanks

Hi @Abilio5EC9 , under normal circumstances it should not take very long to load these, but a number of factors both in the addon and the graph itself could be affecting performance.

First of all, do you see the longer wait times on all .sbsar files or only this one? If this file takes longer to load than other, the issue is likely in the graph setup. Some nodes can be very process intense and affect performance. If you suspect this might be the issue, you could share screenshot of your graph setups for us to inspect.

If you use another one of our plugins, you can try loading the sbsar is another plugin and comparing the load times. If they are similar, then the issue is also likely in the graph setup and it may need optimization.

If you notice this issue with all loaded .sbsar files, then the issue could be in with the addon preferences. Setting the appropriate Substance Remote Engine Engine type could speed up the process, and also loading the materials in at a lower default working resolution. The system console will share a status message when the .sbar has finished loading too. Can you share what that is the time prints for loading?

Best,
Aldo
