[Closed] FrameMaker 7.x/8 Feature Requests

My top wishes have to be ....

1) A native OSX version (FrameMaker is the last "Classic" program that I'm still using).

2) Proper handling of footnotes (so that long footnotes automatically split over pages -- as dumb WP packages did a decade back!).

Erm ... for once, I wouldn't (necessarily) point the finger at Adobe here. Using Alt+E in the formats dialogues sounds like standard Windows: it's the underlined shortcut or accelerator for Delete.

If the Delete button in the Catalog window deleted the selected style, that would have a certain intuitive charm to it.

Feature request: I'd like to see any future release come with a .pdf listing all the shortcuts, escape sequences, etc. Seriously. ALL of them. Since this would probably require adding another cd to the shipping package, I'll not hold my breath.

Real feature requests this time ;^) --<br /><br />Since somebody mentioned various defaults, how 'bout these:<br /><br />1. The default source file in the Import Formats dialog should never be "Current." In fact, unless someone can explain to me why you'd ever want to import formats from the current document *to* the current document, I'd go so far as to say "Current" shouldn't even be on the list, much less the default.<br /><br />2. When you type text into the Find or Change field in the Find/Change dialog, the type should default to "Text:" regardless of what it was set to for the previous search. (The times I've accidentally replaced "By Pasting"... <sigh>).<br /><br />-Bill

Those functions were broken between the last beta and gold release of FM7, as far as I know. Bugs indeed.

Two complaints about the book behaviour:
- you can not open a document in a book by selecting it and hitting Return
- the Up - Down - Page up - Page down - Home and End keys do not work at all on the book window.
This is a degradation from FM 5.5.6 and previous. (I don't know about FM6.0.)
(FM7.0 - Win2k.)

This looks more like a bug report than a feature request.

I would like a "delete all" button in the "Delete Formats From Catalog" dialog boxes. I delete all formats much more often than I delete isolated formats. Plus, there's plenty of room for another button in the dialog and I don't think program overhead would be affected too much by adding this minor feature.

Another one I just hit: Make the index the default when you click on Help.
