This thread is available so you can recommend suggestions and corrections to the FAQ.

Please add only FrameMaker FAQ related entries here.

Please post software-related questions to the regular FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML forums and topics. Do not post them here. This topic only concerns suggestions and questions for the FAQ.

Thanks!

Sean

Hi,

I don't have a handle on the question. When you have the question and solution in hand, go ahead and post it here. I don't mind adding it (even though the question does not seem to come up very frequently at all).

Cheers,

Hi Sean,

I know this isn't the place for discussion - you must get tired of telling people not to post questions here. My comment was intended to support Len Gilbert's request for an FAQ about creating named destinations in PDF files from FrameMaker so that non-FM-generated docs can link to specific places. Sorry that it wasn't clear that I was making that request. So please consider this (and my previous) as a request. I've posted a question on the regular forum, and got a partial answer (so far).

Hi Kenneth:

The intro to the FAQ has the following text:

>Please post software-related questions to the regular FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML forums and topics. Do not post them here. This topic only concerns suggestions and questions for the FAQ.

Please go to the regular FrameMaker forum and post your question.

Thanks,

Sean

I'd like to know the answer to this question too. I think the reason it hasn't come up before is that Adobe Reader didn't have the capability of opening a file at a known destination until fairly recently. I was in fact going to post a question to the forum. So if Thomas has an answer I'd like to hear it - and maybe I will add the question so others can see it too.

Jose, you'll get a lot more folks wanting to help you out if you post your question in the main Framemaker forum (the Framemaker link in the trail above.)

As the intro box says at the top of the page, this topic is reserved for questions and comments about the FAQ's themselves.

Hi again Sean,

Thank you very for the explanation!

FrameMaker says my system doesn't have the "Times font family", (among others). I've googled this, and apparently I'd have to buy these fonts, and then install them in my system.

A "font family" seems like a rather large number of fonts to buy ... Is there any other (legal) way of solving this? (Among other reasons for wanting to work with the original font, if I'm dealing with tables, and/or descriptions of some graphics, I need to make sure that once the document is printed with the original fonts used, it is done properly, with all text showing).

Alternatively, if I were to work on a document - translating it - which I've been supplied, but for which I do not have the original fonts, couldn't the person/client who sends the document send also a copy of some fonts?

regards,
jbr

>However, how do you "Load the font" when you get a "fonts not available" error message??

1. Get the font.
2. Install it as required by your computer's operating system. In Windows XP, you can copy OTF and TTFs right into the fonts directory, or use the control panel.

Cheers,

Sean

P.S. Hi DK!

OK, I found my doubt, aswered and replied!

However, how do you "Load the font" when you get a "fonts not available" error message??

TIA

Hi Dorothy,

By doing so, I see a list of topics being discussed, such as:

FAQ Suggestions and Corrections (82 messages; 6/18/06)
FrameMaker for the Mac End-of-Life (No more development) (new )
Issues fixed in FM 7.1 release (new )
Using the User to User Forums (new )

etc.

This is not what I'm looking for.

Therefore my earlier question: does a list of frequently asked questions, with their respective replies, about FrameMaker exist, or not?

What I have in mind is something similar to this http://www.faqs.org/faqs/frame/faq/part1/ . Unfourtunately, this FAQ whose link I indicated, seems to have been written with FrameMaker version 3 in mind, which is a bit too outdated now.

Regards,
jbr

(Waving hi to Sean also!)

Jose, the forums are set up kind of as pages in folders inside of other folders. This page is inside the FAQ folder, which is inside the main Framemaker folder. You can follow the path back through folders using the links near the top of this page (and similar links on every forum page). Look for <Support <User to User Forums <Adobe FrameMaker <FrameMaker <Framemaker FAQs and click on the Framemaker FAQs link to be taken up to that level.
