Please post software-related questions to the regular FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML forums and topics. Do not post them here. This topic only concerns suggestions and questions for the FAQ.

Converting a FrameMaker document to PDF: if I enter keywords (or document properties in general) in a FrameMaker document, will they be carried into the PDF?

Minhye, to my knowledge, this question has come up once in many years and probably does not need to be in the FAQs. The .book file contains no content so it's not possible. Stick to the thread you have in the FrameMaker forum.

FrameMaker BOOK file can not be saved as RTF.
We need to export FrameMaker Book file to one RTF file.
Isn't it possible?

Joe, please start a thread in the FrameMaker forum (http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ee6b312) unless you really believe this issue happens often enough to enough users to be a FAQ.

At the top of this topic thread, please note: "Please post software-related questions to the regular FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML forums and topics. Do not post them here. This topic only concerns suggestions and questions for the FAQ."

My new computer runs Windows XP. I tried to load FrameMaker 6 CD but keep getting an error:

Program requires at least 3MB of free virtual memory to run.

How do I fix this problem and force my computer to load the CD? Please help.

Converting FrameMaker 7.0 documents to Microsoft Word files.

In our shop we regularly have to provide Word versions of documents we created in FrameMaker to unfortunate members of the company who do not have FrameMaker. So far, we haven't been able to get "Save As..." MS Word .doc file to work. However, we have found a nice work-around.

When we have a FrameMaker document we need to convert, we publish it to HTML using WebWorks. Under "Create a New project" we choose "Microsoft Reader Standard Edition." That keeps WebWorks from adding content. Then we open the resulting HTML document with Internet Explorer. We click on File, and choose "Edit with Microsoft Word." Once the document is in Word, we save it in Word format.

All headers and footers are gone and so are style tags. We use Word's Replace feature to replace the Manual Line Breaks with nothing, then recreate footers and headers, saving the document as a Word document.

The document is small. It's unencumbered by Word Styles. And we don't have a huge problem if we have to pull the document back into Word and re-apply tags (although we do our very best to avoid that procedure, choosing instead to amend the original FM document with the changes made in the Word version).

The process can get cumbersome and long with a 100 page document loaded with graphics, but all-in-all it has served us well so far.

Go ahead and discuss that in the forum and, if there are enough questions and if the question arises often enhoug, I'll make a FAQ.

I would like to suggest a FAQ:
Will Adobe release the patches that are in Framemaker 7.1 without having to buy the whole upgrade for $199? This appears to be the only way to get the fixes (according to the Adobe downloads site), but it's unacceptable to my company since we don't need or want the features that justify an price on the upgrade to FM 7.1 from FM 7.0p578.

Unfortunately, the simple answer to your question is no. None of the "fixes" in FrameMaker 7.1 were retrofitted to the FrameMaker 7.0 codebase and thus, won't be separately available. There will not be any further general updates to 7.0.

Note, you are missing the XP patch for FM 6.

I crash whenever I select 'Skip This File' or 'Ignore All Missing Files'. I have Windows XP and FrameMaker 6.0. I installed a patch I found on the FrameMaker site, 6p405, and it didn't help. What do I do now?
