Question

Webworks TOC doesn't generate from Frame 7.2

I'm pulling my hair out over this webworks Standard edition 8 conversion from Frame 7.2. I only need a basic help system and this looks like it will do what I need. However, their online help doesn't match this version of the software (do you see the humor in that??). The instructions and screen caps don't match the software.

All I want to do is take my generated table of contents from frame into the frameset version they show in the help system and actually display the table of contents in the left frame. They say to map the first file to the toc...but there's no box to change that. Does anyone know how to do this?

Sean-If the Standard version 8 does not use the TOC, then why does it put it in the list?
To verify your reply to me and Alice, I deleted the TOC in Stand version 8 I am working on and did an update, the result was a MISSING TOC (page not found) in the HTML results. My TOC pane now says "The Page Cannot be displayed".
And you are wrong again, the TOC in 7 is not at the top when you first start webworks, you must move it.

Alice- AT this time I am using both Standard version 7 and Standard version 8 at the same time, one on each PC. They are not different except in the way you find settings or go about maping. In fact I can generate a help on the same document from either without any problems.

Guess we forgot to ask, what type of Help are you build with Webworks. This will make a difference in what I suggest?

If you are doing a Dynamic HTML Standard Edition, here are some suggestions:

    1. You should have the following under Support Files:
    Frameset.asp
    FramesTOC.asp
    Images
    Index.asp
    Normal.asp
    Readme.asp
    readme.de.txt
    readme.en.txt
    readme.fr.tst
    readme.ja.txt
    Single.asp
    standard.css
    TOC.asp

    2. You noted that you moved the toc.html, this was not correct, you do not move html files you move *.fm files in webworks.
To add the correct TOC, do the following:

    a. right click anywhere in the Files tab area
    b. select Add
in the dialog box check radio button for Source Document(s)
    c. Click the browse button and locate the TOC for your project, when found and you did everything right, it should now appear in the "Add File to Project" dialog box.
    d. click OK. The TOC will be added, but not at the top as needed.
    e. Highligth TOC and again right click and select rearrange
    d. move the TOC to thetop (the top is below the folder usually called FrameMaker and Generated Files.
    e. Once moved, from the menu bar select Project>Generate all.

    3. Once updated, from the menu bar select Project>Mapping
    a. select the ouput tab
    b. for the ...TOC,html verify or change the mapping to TOC

    Now what happens?

I still can't get it to work. version 8 is apparently a lot different than the previous version. I think the help system that came with this version is for the previous version. I had no problem setting up the frameset. It displays the toc page...but it's blank. I'm wondering why I don't have any WW toc styles to map TO.

    I have a toc.html file...it's in the Navigation folder.
I have a frameset.asp and frameTOC.asp file in the Support folder

When I tried to move the toc.html file from the Navigation folder to the first item in the list...it puts a script file up there and doesn't move the file.

It shouldn't be this difficult. But thanks to all of you that keep giving me suggestions. I'm stumped.

WWP 8 does not use the FrameMaker TOC, so it doesn't need to be anywhere.

WWP 7 does use the FrameMaker TOC, but by default WWP 7 puts the TOC in the right place, I think (maybe not).

What everyone forgot to tell Alice is that to get here TOC to work it has to be the first item in Webworks list, in otherwords move it to the top. Now do an Update. Next at the very top of the list of topics from FramMaker click to highlight and right click mouse and select Mapping. Under the title WebWorks Style is a list of what WebWorks thinks you want. scrole down the list and make sure you only click on WebWorks style, you will get a drop down list to select from. Before making selections, read the online help to understand what these selections will do. Once you select a new style, select Apply and OK. Then do GENERATE ALL.. Caution---what ever you change wil give you your new results, if you do a SAVE before exiting WebWorks, these chnages will not exis the next time you open WebWorks. If you want tio have help in two panes with TOC on left, the information is in the onlibne help and is very simple to change.

    Alice:

From the WWP Publisher 2003 online help system:

    6. For each paragraph style for which you want WebWorks Publisher to generate an entry in the online table of contents, select an option in the In TOC? column. Select TOC1 for top-level TOC entries, TOC2 for second-level entries, TOC3 for third-level entries, and so forth.

For more information, in the WWP OLH system's Index, look for TOC. There are illustrative screenshots that should get you on track

    Cheers & hope this helps,

I thought I might add the obvious...there are no toc1, toc2, etc. styles listed in the template for me to map the framemaker styles to (although the help system says there is).

Ok, that makes sense. However, when I look at the available Web Works styles, I see nothing that looks like it might be a toc style. How can I find out which style it is?

    Alice:

WebWorks produces a help system's TOC based on the mapping of the FrameMaker styles. More specifically, you need to map a given FrameMaker paragraph style (typically a heading style name) to a WWP TOC style.

Stated another way, WWP does *not* use the FrameMaker TOC to produce the OLH system's TOC.

    Cheers & hope this helps,
