Fresco 5.7.0 crashing on Windows

Hi,

I installed Fresco on my new PC (Windows 11, NVIDIA RTX 5080 GPU with the latest Studio driver). The hardware is state-of-the-art.

I’m running Fresco 5.7.0. When I launch Fresco and try to create a canvas, Fresco crashes without warning. Uninstalling it sometimes fails, but occasionally works. The same goes for reinstalling it.

I have no idea what’s going on.

Thanks for any info

    Hello everyone,

We’re aware of a recent surge in crashes for Fresco 5.7.0 on Windows. The team has identified the issue and has suggested a workaround:

    • Navigate to this folder location: C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\
    • Delete this folder: typequest
    • Relaunch Fresco

Kindly try these steps and let us know how it goes.

With the new Fresco version 5.7.1, everything is working perfectly again.

I am having a similar issue except fresco just crashes when i try to open a file. Spent a hour talking too tech support while she took over my laptop it worked briefly then started crashing again. She tried and tried to get me to change to a pro account. In the end it would have been $10 more a month for things I didn’t need. Spoke with some today who was focused more on switching me to a pro account, He wouldn’t take no for an answer, I repeatedly explained I pay too much as it is, I’m not going to pay more for tech support for a free program he put me on hold to transfer me to tech support. after holding for several minutes. the call disconnected. I just want the software to function.

same problem here. Even simple sketches on my 2 in 1 crash randomly after some time. Sometimes it crahses after 30 min sometimes after 20s. Just freezes and closes without any error. Tried:

    • Turn of anivivirus
    • Turn of Onedrive
    • Reinstall all graphics drivers
    • Closed everything except fresco to limit ram usage
    • Set to high power power plan
    • Reinstalled fresco
    • Updated OS, fresco, CC. Restartet the whole thing
    • Run as admin

Same for me, used your workarounds and nothing works.  This should not be happening.  We should not have to go through so much to get an Adobe program to work.  You are making it feel like it is our fault.  Other Adobe Programs work and have for years and years.    No matter, buying and reinstalling on new computers with all different configurations.  Fresco simply will not run.  I have this for you and all my drivers etc are updated.    Samsung Book 5 Pro 360 Business Edition x2 of these, using a Wacom Intuos Pro 20215 tablet with Pro Pen 3 and Art Pen 2.  Windows 11 Pro.

I realize that this is a free program from Adobe; therefore, it is not getting the same attention as the subscription based programs.  But honestly, I did not realize it was a free program, so I understand the lack of attention.  But it is enough to  deter interest in Adobe.    Move on to other programs.   I have been using Adobe  as long as I can remember.   When you owned it, and upgraded it consistently.    Subscription keeps going up.  It was nice to have a freebie added to all the programs I am paying for.   And one that I am interested in enough to try.   But I cannot use it as it crashes upon load (if it actually loads).   I got a run around with support and a push off to a community to explain the issue.   They could not make a ticket for this programs failure.    Maybe someday it will work.   But with everything I have up to date and working.  This is a mystery.  It looks like it has been known for some time.  Why not pull it instead of putting users through so much anguish until it works as all other Adobe Products?

I feel the same way. As I said, in my opinion, it's because of the antivirus program—Norton.

    SOLUTION

I’ve been through it all on this issue. I even performed a factory reset of my SurfacePro and reinstalled everything including Adobe CC just to make sure it wasn’t my machine. I worked with a tech who remoted in to my unit late last week and he wasn’t able to help. I believe I still have a ticket open with Adobe. I gave it one more shot tonight. I wasn’t able to locate the typequest folder, so I tried these items below and was able to get Fresco running again:

    • I stopped my OneDrive from backing up my Documents. This forced Adobe and several other items back onto my C: drive instead of constantly backing up in the cloud. Adobe was definitely in that mix, so it brought all of the adobe files back to my local drive.
    • I turned off all anti-virus and malware protections. (This was temporary, they are back on and running now)
    • I went into the programs control panel and clicked on Adobe CC. The options that appeared for me were “repair” or “uninstall.” I chose to repair, even though I had already deleted and reinstalled it/restarted CC several times.
    • I believe I restarted Adobe CC one more time.
    • Opened Fresco. It worked.
    • I turned my Anti-Virus and Active Monitoring back on.
    • Ran my Task Manager alongside Fresco, and my Defender Malware Service Executable is no longer going crazy.

I want to note that I still have all things Adobe in my Exclusions in Defender.

I also want to note that this is not a permanent solution. I would like for OneDrive to be able to work, and I am not a very tech savvy person, so I’m not sure what the repercussions of my decision to tell OneDrive to stop backing up my documents could be. I use CC, Blender and Chrome on my Surface, so who knows, it’s pretty limited.

If any of this information gets anyone else back up and running until an actual fix is found, I’m happy.

Final note: After the fact, I was able to find and perform the task listed in this answer from Adobe. I reopened Fresco after deleting the typequest folder, and everything seems to be running, but I will not change anything I’ve done until I know a fix has been officially announced.

Best of luck to all, Adobe included. This has been...not great.

    Solution to the Fresco problem:
If you're using Norton Internet Security, you need to
block the Adobe Fresco Dev setting in the Program Control panel. Then Adobe Fresco will work perfectly.

    Hello @Laura Jean

I understand how frustrating it can be to experience crashes. Would you mind updating the OS (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-windows-3c5ae7fc-9fb6-9af1-1984-b5e0412c556a) to the latest version and checking whether it helps? Also, try the following steps and share your observations:

    1. Go to Creative Cloud Desktop Application

    2. Press Ctrl+Alt+R

    3. It will show a dialog to Relaunch

    4. Click Continue and wait for 2-3 minutes

    5. Launch Fresco

Also, kindly reinstall the GPU drivers (Intel / NVIDIA / AMD), set the Graphics Preference to High-Performance for Fresco (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-110), and check if it helps.

Additionally, check if all of your work is synced online (https://assets.adobe.com/cloud-documents). If yes, please try resetting Fresco (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/repair-apps-and-programs-in-windows-e90eefe4-d0a2-7c1b-d...) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
