Brush doesnt remember settings

Hello there, every time I chose a new tool I must make a little mark then set the stroke to what I want. Every siingle time it defaults to 1px (I use pix not points) Say for example I am creating my webcomic Growlution and drawing the main character with a brush size of 0.25 px. Then I join all the lines (I made a shortcut shift J for that.) Finally I return to the brush and find that it is back to 1px and the only way to fix it is to brush a stroke or dot and adjust it again. It gets very time consuming and really slows down my creative flow.

I layer my brush strokes and join lines as I go, simplify and adjust. As such, I am always joining lines as I go. I tried to search google but got unsatisfactory results, this I posted here. Can anyone please help? How can I set the brush to remember my settings?

Open the "Appearence pannel" from the options menu ( upper right corner) and uncheck "New art has basic appearance"

Thank you. I was going batty trying to duplicate it for the video software. I kept having issues, got it once and it recorded a black screen except for the mouse. I rebooted to have network issues that had to be solved. I had to update a few drivers, run a system scan to fix any stray problems and a bunch of stuff. You just made my art life a lot easier. Thank you

You have just a uniform stroke in your comic. Why do you use the brush tool at all? Use the pencil tool.

I use the brush because I have a lot of custom art and pattern brushes. What's the difference?

Then please link to an example that better illustrates your issue.

The difference between brush and pencil tool is that the brush tool will always use a brush. And it will embed pressure etc info from your drawing tablet into the path. The pencil does not do either. But it *can* use a brush if you wish it to.
