Global Edit never works

No matter what; even if I create a new document with a few squares, and select one of them, Start Global Edit returns: “Global Edit is currently not supported for more than 1000 highlighted objects.”

Looks like an awful bug to me, so what do I do?

macOS Tahoe 26.5.2, Ai 29.3.1

I updated Illustrator, again, and for now it works again.

The astounding part of your statement is that you get the message about the limit even if there are only a few squares.

I have also faced this issue sometimes and as far as I remember it occured when initially the number of objects considerably exceeded the limit (1000), followed by decreasing the number to get an approved crowd (2, 5, 18, 100 etc.). Then Illustrator sometimes does not notice that the number is within the allowed range again and thus throws in the warning message unnecessarily.

I cannot reproduce the issue right now, but I can confirm that it may happen. Probably just a temporary bug.

    Hello @UselessUser

I’m sorry to hear the earlier suggestions did not help. Could you try updating your OS and Illustrator to the latest releases (https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-manually.html) (https://support.apple.com/en-us/108382) and check whether the problem persists? If yes, please share a brief screen recording of your exact workflow and the problem so we can look into this further with the team.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Works fine on my Mac in both 2025 and 2026, maybe someone else can replicate your problem.

    Hi @UselessUser,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble you’re experiencing while using Global Edits. Would you mind opening the Document Info panel, and choosing Objects in its menu?
Then it will quickly count the selected objects, with the limitations Global Edit has.

I also noticed that you've created a duplicate post here on the same issue. To help us track the conversation more effectively and ensure you receive the best assistance, I’d recommend continuing the discussion in a single thread.

Please try the suggestion above and let us know if it helps.

We’ll be happy to assist you further.

    Thanks,

    Harshika

Apparently, there are no objects in my document, but there are, as you can see below.

That is because Selection Only is checked and you have nothing selected.

No matter what; even if I create a new document with three copied and pasted squares, Start Global Edit returns: “Global Edit is currently not supported for more than 1000 highlighted objects.”

    What is the problem here?
