Illustarator automatically make the images linked even though I embedded them

Hello, I am quite new to Illustrator.

I created a file which contains a few images. The default option ( I assume) was to make all the images linked. I changed all the images to be embedded (by choosing the image and then clicking "embed" on the upper control).

But whenever I close the file and open it again - the images are again linked.

Any idea how to stop them getting back to be linked?

 

I am working on the same files from 2 different computers but both of them are linked to my user.

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind trying to uncheck the option for Link when using the option for File>Place and checking if it helps?

Hello Anubhav, thanks for your comment.

Sure, I am unchecking this LINK box everytime. But still, when saving the file, closing it and ope4n again once I need to work on it - the images are linked again
