Illustrator Crashes When Copying - Illustrator 29.6.1 / Win 11

I’m experiencing an issue with Adobe Illustrator where I cannot copy anything. Both Ctrl+C and right-click > Copy cause the software to crash immediately. This has been happening repeatedly throughout the day.

Could you please advise on the cause and any possible solution? It’s really frustrating that Illustrator can’t handle such a basic function like copying without crashing.

Gracias! Espero su respuesta

Hello @Nadia37972677f0tk,

We have received reports from several customers that the latest Windows Defender security intelligence update - 1.435.148.0 has potentially fixed this issue.
Could you try installing the update and letting us know if it helps?

Also experiencing this issue. Doesn't matter if it's via hotkeys or from the menu, any copy or cut command causes Illustrator to hang for a moment then crash. Was able to drag and drop items from one open project to another without issue as a workaround but it's a massive hinderance. Computers are managed by IT, safemode isn't a realistic option.

Bump..... so that Adobe knows we need this fix to come soon to continue to produce work, we are dead in the water!

Issue started 8/6 for me in 29.6. Updated to 29.7.1 and issue persists. New documents copy and paste fine but any existing document cannot.

Managed enterprise account and can't run safe/mode or disable windows defender.

Woah ho ho, new document was fine for about an hour but now any copy and paste results in a crash inside that new doc too.

Same, we have 3 team members also on Windows that prevents from copying on old or saved documents, works on a create new document, but once saved and reopened its back to crashing, the right click then copy or edit tab then copy functions result to crashing as well. Updated, downgraded, uninstall, reinstall, safe mode, diagnostic check have no effect or help on the crashing.

Self same issue (Win11 box); all working fine until noon and then ctrl-c on a shape in the doc I created this morning to pop into a doc I created this afternoon causes a shutdown. Big job to get finished and this has stopped me in my tracks.

I am also experiencing this issue. Copy function works fine in other applications. I reinstalled windows as it flagged faulty .dll file. It worked ok after install but it is now doing it again. Very frustrating

Same here, can't find anything special in event log either.

We have 3 team members that can't really work. In the error report you get some kind of access violation.

Two out of five of my members are experiencing this issue today.
Due to company restrictions, we are unable to work in Safe Mode. We've tested multiple versions of Illustrator 28 and 29, and none of the suggested workarounds have resolved the problem.

We are all using Windows 11 Enterprise, version 23H2, with identical PC setups (Dell Precision 7680).

Kindly escalate this issue for prompt resolution, as it is significantly affecting our ability to work.

Update: As of today 11-Aug-25 ALL teammembers in my department are facing the copy-crash issue. Crash report is sent. Adobe, PLEASE ESCALATE!

Update: I encountered the same issue again earlier today, but surprisingly, copy/cut is now working without causing Illustrator to crash! I’m cautiously optimistic, it’s functioning for now, but I still feel a bit anxious each time I need to copy something. Fingers crossed it continues to behave.

Just to note: I haven’t rolled back any settings or installed new updates. I’m currently running version 28.0 on Windows 11 Enterprise.
