Jacob, are those small dark parts in the branches just bats or a group of shrunken monks?

You may say they are cherries, but I don't believe it.

You know me too well, Kurt (and have for too long).

The rather small fruit bats we have here, more specifically cherry bats, have retained enough of the ancient vampire blood (bad or just bat?) to need a nap while the sun is up, and yet thinned it enough through cherry juice to  just hang out in the (cherry) trees, still needing to cover their eyes though.

The currently undercover Buddleia monks at the lower left are having a well earned rest after preaching to the choir which used to flutter by all summer.

This showed up yesterday. Rather late for Alaska, even here in the banana belt.

    Delightful, Peter.

And the very first video here.

I will, Kurt; I should love to have a great amount of white stuff to protect them against.

Doug, we are lucky indeed; and working for it. Rather than a lawn the low greenery is increasingly more diverse and flowery, so in the summer we have partridges, and the roe deers and pheasants are visiting all the year round.

I believe you know that the roe buck kid is the real Bambi.

I only spotted it because it was close to the terrace door when I opened it; and just moved 30 feet away, then resumed its browsing, which brought it close to the hens busy with the corn, and then it took over there, before continuing its round.

According to the forecast those visitors will run the risk of being buried alive by the white stuff during the forthcoming days.

    Take care of them, Jacob.

You mean one that is conscientious and responsible enough to test stuff before distributing, with the possible side effect of seing things (in funny ways), Kurt?

In any case the taste was cool, and a sufficient amount could really make one chill out.
