Opening from other apps problem

I have very wierd and iritating problem. I can open in Illustrator only one smart object from Photoshop or vector from Acrobat. When opening smart object from Photoshop (ex. double clicking on layer icon) Illustrator opoen only one file. When I'm trying to open another smart object it doesn't open. Illustrator thinking for while like normal during opening file and then nothing.

It seems like Illustrator can open only one file form Photoshop or Acrobat (when editing pdf and try to edit some objects). It broke down with no reason, becouse earlier I didn't have problem with opening multiple smart objects in Illustrator. Now each time I want to open it from Photoshop I have to restart Illustrator.

    Here is my input.

    One random day out of every couple weeks I'll have this same issue.  100% of the documents I open do NOT allow me to edit any Illustrator pasted smart objects from Photoshop using "double click" or "Layer > Smart Objects > Edit Contents." Here are some details:

    • If I close Illustrator completely, I can then double click the smart objects in order to re-open Illustrator and have that document load just fine.  It's only when illustrator is already open that it doesn't want to load the smart object.
    • If I reboot, the problem is fixed.

    Same here. Happened after last major Windows 10 update (Creators update - I think).

    Issue gone after installation/reinstallation of nVidia graphics driver.

      This is the Illustrator forum and Illustrator does not have Smart Objects. Photoshop does.

      Am I misinterpreting "I can open in Illustrator only one smart object from Photoshop or vector from Acrobat"?

      Are you in Photoshop trying to open multiple Smart Objects or in Illustrator trying to open multiple Smart Objects?

      Please clarify, thanks, and if you are in Photoshop we should move the thread from the Illustrator forum to the Photoshop forum.

        Monika Gause​ - Have you encountered this?

        Also have you tried the following alternative methods since double clicking the smart object doesn't always work?

        • Choose Layer > Smart Objects > Edit Contents.
        • In the Properties panel, click Edit Contents.

        Seems to be a Windows issue.

        And maybe related to the issue that Illustrator will only open one file at a time for some people.

          What OS? What version? CS or CC? What version of Illustrator? What build? We need more information here....

            Of course, my mistake. Windows 10 64-bit. Illustrator CC from Creative Cloud with latest update. But, I have this problem earlier on previous build couple time ago, so I suppose this is a bug of all 2017 builds. But then after reinstalling AI worked normal. Untill today it starts making this bug again without any noticalble reason (crash, error or something during working which could give any clue).

              Have you tried all the basic things like resetting Illustrator Preferences etc?
